I think it's more due to political ignorance and the overton window shifting right the last 50 years. People tend to equate modern liberalism, which is very much pro-markets and pro-capital, with leftism.

It’s not an echo chamber to refuse to accept hate speech and shitty right wing media. It’s an interesting but continuous claim that if you don’t accept far right and increasingly fascist viewpoints, you live in an echo chamber. This is a lie.

Basically what I did is just follow some people I knew from twitter, and from that I discovered a few follow lists and block lists that I liked. Within a couple of days I had a pretty well curated and very busy feed of things I was interested in seeing and interacting with.

Bluesky definitely has a "this is what twitter used to be vibe" but it's so much more than that. With follow lists and block lists it's really easy to get up to speed and curate your feed. It's also very noticeably less algorithm driven.

Simple fact of the matter is we pay nearly double per capita what most of Europe, Canada and Australia pays for healthcare, and we don't even have universal coverage. Add in the fact that a majority of bankruptcies are due to medical debt and it paints a pretty damning picture overall.

This system is fundamentally broken. Anyone defending it is either willfully ignorant or shielded from it's worst aspects.

I live in the Denver metro area and have recently travelled several places. Here in Denver rides are 20-50% more expensive than they were pre-pandemic and it takes noticeably longer to get a ride.

This is the most likely scenario honestly. I was a security guard while I was in college because it gave me time to study. They were very explicit about NOT engaging with anyone in a confrontational manner. You make yourself seen to prevent stuff walking off of job sites and if you see someone doing something you call the police, period. They didn't want to be sued. They even had a limit on how big your mag-lite could be so it wouldn't be considered a weapon.

They don't set their own pay. It's set by board members that are probably executives in other companies.

The C level engineered an entire system where it's impossible for them to lose.

So executives reap massive gains during both profits and losses. They literally cannot lose. Yet somehow this is moral while millions get laid off and are tasked with "pulling themselves up by their bootstraps" because capitalism...

Pull up a elevation/topo map of Pittsburgh and you'll see why some people will smell something while others don't. It's very hilly and it would be easy for certain particulates/gasses to settle in some places but not others.

Industrial pollution is probably more common than most people realize. I've lived Denver, Pittsburgh and Tampa and you can always catch smells depending on what part of the city you're in. MCAS is a band-aid trying to fix the inherent stability of the 737 max. Add in the fact that a single faulty pitch sensor could bring down a plane and blam. Finally, fail to properly train pilots on how the system actually worked and how to override it and here we are today. Software is a part of it but overall I don't see it as a software issue.

We use mac's exclusively at my work. I just started this job two months ago and my mbp stopped charging because of a usb issue. It's off at the depot getting it's logic board replaced while I type this on a loaner from 2015. Not very impressed with mac's at this point and I feel that they've lost quality control.
