I had Prof. Beazley as a CS undergrad at University of Chicago. He was an amazing professor and much loved. Seeing how little the university valued his contributions is a big reason I chose not to pursue an academic path.

There is another important point, which is that FDM 3D prints are typically much weaker between layers than within a layer (anistropic due to the bonding). Having more control over the plane of the layers could open up some interesting design choices for functional parts.
Are there any OCR engines out there that actually recognizes underlines properly? Even the LLMs seem to struggle to model the underline (though they get the text fine).

“Final” rejections are poorly named. All they really indicate is that you will probably have to submit a request for continued examination—-and pay a hefty fee—-to continue. Ironically, a lengthy and contentious application process can make the patent more difficult to challenge later, in a more sophisticated setting, because the presumption that the patent is valid is the strongest with prior art that the examiner “considered.” (IAALBNYL)
