That's actually not how the Gestapo worked. They were very bureaucratic and followed protocol. Their most misused power, according to Wikipedia, was the "protective custody".

It's not really better. Fact is we are running huge and complicated frameworks with lots of dependencies. These technologies are new and evolve fast. Distros don't have enough volunteers to decouple this mess and thus fail to provide stable packages. There is a good chance nobody wants an old version of hadoop anyways.

Containers are a whole other problem. Always bothered me that no one cares about building these images themselves. The documentation is there, you can build your own docker/vagrant/... containers and vms. It's just nobody seems to care anymore? Sometimes I don't even know where these images come from, distro, community, ...?

Usually companies like this can fail for a very long time. As long as someone is willing to pay, you can live with the slow development speed, the high number of bugs and the constant team changes.

We've got two mechanical keyboards in our office, but everybody is wearing headphones or talking on the phone anyways. Up until a few years ago office computers were noisy, this has recently changed with laptops being good enough and "silent" pc cases.

But yeah, I've been typing on cherry black switches for a decade now, so cherry blue switches still sound loud to me.

I kind of agree, I often feel like I'm addicted to online news. I dislike it's shallowness. I despair at it's ignorance to history and context.

But then, following the news teaches me stuff about the world and how it works. It reminds me how complex the world is and how dangerous. It educates and it coins me.

I agree, it's all about her minority status and backstory, I'd argue that because of that she wasn't able to handle the matter in a smarter way. It was dangerous to make a public example out of this guy and escalate things, which thanks to the internet is way easier than ever. If she'd felt stronger, had more middle class problem solving skills, she might have taken a smarter approach, one where she didn't expose herself to attacks.

There is one thing I learned, just because someone is poor, had it hard, doesn't mean she's right or a nice person and is equipped to handle situations appropriately.

So there is this internet hate machine and it's terrible. The cyber bullying crimes (ok, that's probably free speech in the US) and insults are way off, totally disproportionate.

But the way she acted, taking a photo and publicly tweeting it? That's an attack, I'm not judging, maybe it was right to take direct action. I'm just saying if you escalate things you got to be ready for the retaliation. Especially if you are not in a position of power. And let's be honest, against culture, against public opinion and the internet hate machine, most of us lose.

If the EU wants to delist results worldwide they have to reach for a worldwide law. Work together with other bodies of law, the UN or whoever. But why'd EU law rule worldwide? Oh, right, we're rich.

Actually you need a cab license to drive a cab in most german cities. And the number of these licenses is limited by the city. While the German taxi system is in dire need of a reform most people believe Uber is not the answer.
