Azov and the Taliban are bad, yeah. But they appeared because of foreign threats. None of this would happen if Russia didn't repeatedly murder people in neighboring countries then backpedal and retroactively justify their invasion by saying radical defense forces are defending themselves from Russia.

Don't want your country to be attacked by extremists? Don't invade and push people to radical groups. Your paycheck signer deserves the blame for Azov 100%.

The very first paragraph of Wikipedia even says Azov formed as a consequence of something.

If Russia weren't terrorizing the region, Azov would not exist. Russia pays to astroturf the claim that Azov is some thing that appeared out of nowhere when it's a group that formed directly to keep Russia and its violent militias out.

America has a large portion of English speakers. It historically had a large portion of people with direct ties to the UK. Haiti had plenty of people with ties to France and still has French speakers. Taiwan has Chinese speakers and people with family in China.

There's a clear pattern here. But Russia pays people to pretend that Russian speakers means it's their land to stabilize. When in reality, it's a completely irrelevant statement.

Do you think Russia's funding of terrorist groups in the eastern portions of Ukraine known for atrocities against civilians could've influenced that decision?

Or maybe going back farther Russia's sudden seizure of Crimea with a fraudulent vote with 97% in support could've been what made Ukraine nervous that they'd be invaded and seek support from other countries?

Or maybe going back a little farther to the USSR's atrocities against Ukraine, including Holodomor--the outright genocide of the Ukrainian people--might've been the thing that makes Ukraine want to ally with literally any country but Russia?

The idea that Ukraine should want to associate with Russia is the most bizarre political claim there ever was. Their history is nothing but being ravaged and literally raped by Russia, so them considering joining NATO is nothing but a big "no shit". Putin deserves to be surrounded for his actions. All he's done is shown that the Russia's intentions to destroy the Ukrainian people haven't changed in 100 years.

I don't think Ukraine was even being seriously considered for NATO until Russia decided to surround the country with its military recently.

It's like punching someone, some guy passing by tells you to stop, then you justify your reason for punching that person because you were worried that the person who told you to stop was going to attack you.

Nobody was going to do anything to say anything to you if you hadn't gone out of your way to attack someone.

"Expansion" makes it sound like something that happened to Eastern Europe against their will--not that those countries actively wanted to join.

Those countries actively bid to join NATO because they feared Russia expanding into Eastern Europe. Turns out their fears were justified.

I remember seeing broken down cars pretty often as a kid. Just driving 30 minutes to the grocery store on weekends and seeing (or being) one wasn’t that uncommon.

Protein intake that low is just insane if you’re doing exercise that much. Your body will accumulate injuries fast, unless you’re defining exercise as lifting 1kg “dumbbells”.

Cutting carbs that much would mean you’re getting virtually all your calories from fat. Most natural sources of fats (nuts, meat, milk) also pack in protein, and you’d quickly be over 0.5g/kg. The only other option is chugging grease.

Not sure how a high exercise, no protein, frequent fasting diet is going to work. It sounds worse than a North Korean laborer’s lifestyle.

Plenty of people eat tomatoes and pasta quite often so it’s also not an unreasonable test case.

I once walked down a street that had hundreds of them. Being bored and interested in spiders, I picked up a twig to provoke them a bit and see how they responded.

Some of them would furiously try to bite the stick and I could feel their fangs scraping on it. So I can’t quite say whether they’re strong enough to break the skin, but they’re strong enough to send vibrations down a 2 foot long stick.

Russia is also a known hotbed for neonazis. So is Alabama. Just because a region has small factions of race extremists it doesn’t mean they’re blowing up nuclear reactors.

But Russia’s history of false flag operations and whataboutism are so well-documented that it’s literally a textbook example. They’ve invaded Georgia and Ukraine before using the same exact lies. Putin’s history in Chechnya is also horrific. So you should trust Russia saying they’re coming to liberate someone as much as you should trust a certain other country coming to liberate someone: you shouldn’t.

It’s useful to know what some people are fed and what the source of “their” opinions may be.

It’s also useful to see what overdone propaganda is like to have a solid reference point for when our own countries try to do the same.

With a move away from fossil fuels, CO2 will become less of a concern.

So long as the people with guns have their bellies full, not much will happen in Russia. Just like as much as the world wants North Korea to change and become more free, most of the people enforcing the law can’t imagine living any other way and they’re happy to maintain the status quo.

Maybe a rapid decline in quality of life will be enough to turn things around in Russia. Or maybe just enough people are so used to struggles there that nothing will change. North Koreans went through decades of wars and invasions—the people there haven’t known that life can be better, so they don’t feel a reason to revolt. People in Russia who were alive during pre-Putin era struggles most likely do really see him as lifting the country to a higher level. The possibility for Russia becoming a new NK-style state isn’t completely impossible.

I'm guessing at this point it's dominate Ukraine at any means necessary and ride out sanctions until they start to slacken after countries like Germany, etc need gas and are willing to accept that Ukraine is an extinct country to get it.

And, unfortunately, that just may be what happens. A lot of countries are too lazy with investing in renewables or nuclear and they're in for some very hard times if they need to rely on gas to be shipped in or piped around Ukraine/Russia, so I can imagine sanctions being loosened in under a year for many countries. At least France was smart enough to go for nuclear and can probably hold a moral high ground as long as they want and the US has shown they'll hold grudges for decades (see Cuba and Iran).

Registration forms in Japan are definitely worse than anywhere else on earth. Strict text length limits (last name can’t fit in 4 characters? Sucks for you), randomly flip flopping between characters being full width and half width, having to enter your foreign name only in kanji and wondering whether it’ll accept katakana, full width letters, or hiragana instead (and it only ever accepts one of those and you’ll never know which), data being lost when it inevitably fails to accept your input. It’s hell.

I’ve come to prefer Japanese web design over western design in general. It can be messy at times, but you don’t have endless pop ups asking you to sign up for their “newsletter” ad spam that is sold off to third parties(nobody reads those—your stats are fraudulent and people only register because they think it’ll end the pop ups), endless cookie pop ups, random bot support chats for things that would never need it, “Take me to the new design!” pop ups that lead away from a functional page to absolute garbage, h u g e white space for zero reason, random “login with Google!” pop ups for a basic-ass text page, social media buttons, and so on.

Japanese web design feels like walking into a casino, but western design feels like having a dump truck emptied on you.

Amazon item product pages are standardized. Rakuten item pages are basically all their own unique geocities webpage and even the ordering procedure isn’t fully standardized.

The Russian government's actions in Ukraine are horrifying. People wanting to spite anyone with a Russian background is distasteful and I fear it may simply backfire if it keeps building, similar to anti-Asian violence after covid or western actions and racism only empowering the message of Islamic extremists.

I'm fine with punishing corporations and putting a squeeze on Russian billionaires so they'll breathe down Putin's neck. Telling a random dude born in Russia to bugger off just isn't right to me. My home country has a history of awful shit but nobody ever actively turned me away just for my background.

It seems like they're banning people who simply have a background in that country.

There are a few words for that philosophy, and legality of that business practice becomes questionable.

Will you also block countries that use their tax dollars to arrest and kill LGBT people? Or countries that are involved in other unjust wars?

I highly doubt you won't immediately revert all this and try courting those customers again if this war gets resolved but Putin somehow stays in power. Just go with a "sorry dudes but your president is doing bad stuff and we're making a temporary move here. Sorry" sort of statement.

I think times have changed quite a bit. Poland was always thrown to the dogs before, but now it's a pretty decently respected country. It also has economic value to the EU as a whole.
