Been using this for about a year and it is awesome! allows a lot more control than fancy zones.

I don't think the use of the word 'idiot' was great by itself, it should have been 'arrogant idiot'
"This is a classic case of Scientism (The opinion that science and the scientific method are the best or only way to render truth about the world and reality.)"
He more or less claims that consciousness is outside the realm of human understanding, but also then mentions the millennia of study by scholars about consciousness has found the real truth about consciousness.
Makes me think of the digital speed limit signs that start to flash red and blue when you hit 10 mph over the limit. Like of course every 16 year old kid ever is trying to make them flash red and blue and also me at 32.
At this point I don't think anyone can predict where we will be in 5 years because its changing very quickly.
From my view, chat gpt already codes a lot like a jr. developer but much faster
Just switch to neovim :P
It seems like we might look back at writing code in 15-20 years the way we now look back at something like punch card programming
Recently started Vivaldi and it's pretty nice! I switched because it's the only decent browser that I can remove the address bar and use it only with a hot key. So far it seems fast enough and haven't run into bugs.
It does have a ton of features that I'll never use that I wish were extensions or something
Lol
Just about human intelligence in general. I used to think replacing my software job was a long ways off because it is fairly intellectually challenging but chatgpt has really changed my opinion on that.
Its funny how many people will immediately poke holes in it for software development, but two years ago I could not imagine an AI could write code like chatgpt is doing now.
Seriously. Not only do I only drive like 5 miles a week now I also only shower once a week!
I feel you here. After living with them for a couple years I started to feel crazy when I would crush the skittering ones with my bare hands in hopes of making a dent.
After trying dozens of extermination strategies I cackled when the first generation of deformed roaches started being born when using gentrol. >:)
What is the shit we are throwing that you are talking about? Climate related?
Just replace gambling with alcohol. The small minority of addicts shouldn't fuck it up for the rest of us.
I dove deeply into it this past year to extract some value out of promotions the books are running, and have continued to bet because it is fun trying to find lines that have positive expected value and it's been a nice stream of extra income.
How many years until we can generate a feature length film from a script?
Imagine the increase in existential crises the past 2 weeks.
Is there any attempt or is it even possible to correct for the distortion caused by the gravitational lensing?
Will only really matter what problems Musk thinks twitter has, and seems weird to doubt musk can fix them at this point.
It took me quite a while grappling with the idea that it was okay that some of the best times I ever had were in that game.

Recently got Starlink. From 10Mbps/0.5Mbps to 150/10 is a god send. I'll gladly pay for the extra power consumption.
I have some sympathy for the astronomy crowd, but I wonder if its inevitable. And is world wide broadband more/less important to society than having to correct for light streaks?
The router debacle is just ridiculous though. All of the networking tech being used is so ubiquitous, why not include a damn ethernet port. I just received my ethernet adapter 2 months later and... it doesn't work. Tried multiple configurations including straight into a PC - nothing. to top it off my support ticket was closed without any response... so my $300 mesh wifi will just sit on the shelf while half the house gets poor connectivity.
Overall its exciting to have decent internet and not live in a city. The future of it is exciting too -especially the space laser links. Imagine a situation where you can hop directly to a ground station on or very nearby a data center. A lot of people saying Starlink is great if you don't have access to something better, but Starlink may end up being the "fastest" internet available.
"Incremental" is not the right word when you go from 700ms latency down to 30ms
When we gonna start building the telescopes in space?
"Torben had constraints I knew nothing about"
Indeed a good point, the constraint of laziness and stupidity :P
I'm now 10 days clear of the last obvious symptoms - but I've been having major trouble focusing since the end of the Holiday and not sure if due to covid or not.
The spread is so fast, all charts now look insane and would be terrifying if not for the mild symptoms.
I wonder if it is possible for a virus to wipe itself out by spreading so quickly that it ends up with very few left to infect, assuming it doesn't mutate enough in time.
Lmao some of the responses to this... God ppl can you like enjoy life a little bit maybe
Lol and everyone is programmed to have their Karen moment at some point
"Trust the science"
Feels to me like an oxymoron.
What about the hodlers.
What if your ponzi becomes a globally accepted currency.
I think that opinion is complacent... spawned out of modern wealth and qualify of life.
Liberty is incredibly broad.if you're approach to the constitution (which I think many today share) is that you may restrict anything that isn't specifically mentioned then you are missing the whole point. Eventually aspects of life/liberty that you hold important will be restricted by those who share your approach.
