Jupyter + Spark. tableau if I'm feeling lazy for viz.

I honestly wouldn't have minded if they kept the same form-factor and aesthetic with the original N5 (the one I use and love right now), and just did an internal overhaul...similar to how Apple does minor cosmetic changes, but a whole world of upgrades internally.

Before I sleep, I download a set of podcasts for the commute the following day on Pocketcasts. Mine are usually about ML, Freakonomics, Startup School, and AI. But you go try whatever you want. I find that it's best to spend idle time listening to intellectual background sounds (if you're at least not listening to them).

I try to avoid any social media at this point. Anytime I find myself on Facebook or Twitter for more than 3 minutes, I kill the tab and get back to focus on work.

I come from a very technical background--CS with Machine Learning, and I'm currently diving into the humanities and arts. I'm using Hackdesign as a primer into the arts and design frame of mind.

I think it's best to engage in domains of thinking that are worlds apart from where you currently are.

I agree with the speed, quality, and market fit issue all driven by systems thinking. Diminishing happens when you don't hire well (this is from a startup's perspective). Having 100 10x-ers will obviously perform better than 500 5x-ers.

I think it all comes back down to motivation. Systems and design-level thinking is core, but there should be proper motivation.

This was already posted a few days ago. It's all a matter of perspective though. People see the JFDI speed as piling on technical debt. Others see it as agile or lean.

Personally, speed is a matter of motivation and dedication on how much you want done per unit of time.

I use a Macbook Air and an iMac 5K at work. I keep these synced up heavily with cloud-based solutions like GDrive, Evernote, and VPN access to the hadoop clusters I work with.

Config-wise, I just built a shell script that I ran on both machines to install the same packages and libs I use for work.

For my startup, we use something like this https://github.com/thoughtbot/laptop (modified to our specs of course) to keep our machines all synced up. I'm thinking of using Docker or Vagrant to consistently provision machines with regular updates though. This has to be explored.

For me it's based on how recent I put it in Pocket. I usually read uplifting and inspiration go-getter startup posts and articles on firstround or HN to get me going in the morning. Later in the day during breaks, I read the more technical articles and posts on TC or Wired. I begin to read actual books when I get home before sleeping.

I try to optimize time by listening to podcasts during the commute. These are practically blogposts anyway.

Of course, if it's a selection of books, the most recently purchased one takes priority.

We use lucidchart and balsamiq at times to model ERDs using the crow's foot style. There are certain gems for Ruby on Rails dev that generate ERDs from the schema,.

There are configs within nginx that prevent this from happening. Also, I symlink only the publicfiles from a different directory into my /var/www/html folder.
