Recent news reveals that not only are they not in danger but are instead thriving. Kind of inconvenient.

Is it just me or does the site look optimized for Microsofts Metro interface? I brought the site up in my tablet's (ASUS Transformer) and it looked good there, too. I would say it's almost optimized for mobile devices with the exception being there are a lot of links that are tiny text and are easy to fat-finger in any phone or tablet.

How is this Hacker News? This isn't even a thinly veiled advertisement ...

Something similar happened to my wife.

The President of their company would breeze by the lab. In an effort to keep employee salaries down he would casually mention how everyone in the lab was easily replaceable. I have no idea how one would casually mention this but he somehow managed to work it into the conversation. Needless to say everyone there in the lab got the impression that they weren't wanted. I think in the span of twelve months everyone woman there quit and moved on to better jobs. When my wife moved on she found a job with double the salary and a company that really appreciates her.

They were the biggest threat at the time the lawsuit was filed. I think the target will be changing to Amazon and ASUS in the near future.

I don't agree with their assessment and I am assuming they're putting on a nice face for investors. I think most users will consider this as a cool eReader that they can play Angry Birds on, not an Android tablet.

No it wasn't; I own an iPhone 3G and it stalls and stutters doing anything. It's consistently done that for the entirety of its service. My wife bought the 3GS and _that_ was when we saw much of the UI lag go away.

I moved on to Android and own a Galaxy S - there's virtually no UI stutter at all, I only see delays on shutting some programs or launching a few apps. My wife recently bought a 4S and it's very smooth, but don't tell me that iOS has always been this smooth because you're looking back with rose-colored glasses.

A locked boot loader is the entire reason why I won't be buying a Motorola Droid Razr. I really like the looks and features of it but what happens if they refuse to update the OS to fix potential issues down the road? The fact that I can hack (and have done so) my Galaxy S and upgrade the OS as well as uninstall all of the bloatware is immensely appealing to me.

Interesting subtext beneath the article - with Jobs gone once again Apple is going to slow down and eventually die. I'm sure I'm not the only one that read that in the article; there will definately be a lot of, "Can Apple continue to innovate now that Jobs is gone?" articles in the coming year.

Unless he passed on to someone his vision for what he sees as the future of the iPhone or communications in general, I think Apple will begin to flounder again and eventually fade off into history.

I didn't see it this way - I have more than one gmail address and after downloading the app it prompted me to associate Google+ with the account that didn't have Google+! There is no option to associate it with any other email address so it's completely unusable to me.

Where is the money coming from to fuel these ventures? The last bubble seemed fueled by real estate.

Sarcasm off ... why are these $429+?

My son wanted to see some Wizard movie with Nic Cage in it. Through Tivo I forked over $2 and was informed we had 48hrs to watch it before our rental expired. We managed to do that. That was last month.

This month, I'm browsing through my Netflix immediate-watchable list and what do I see? Yeah, that Nic Cage movie.

I have a Corsair P128 I bought in October of 2009. It cost me $350 but after seeing the performance gains and reading about the almost change in lifestyle you get in using one I thought it would be worth it.

I was right. Everyone was right. It's still running now, without issue, and I enjoy 8 second boot times with Windows 7 and virtually instantaneous-launch applications. Well worth the price. I regularly backup my data but it's nice to know that if it failed today I could buy a replacement from NewEgg for nearly half the price and probably better performance.

Camera 360 started doing this and I uinstalled it. If I knew an app was going to have this I would never install it in the first place.

Why? For me it gave the sensation of an additional app installed along with the app I wanted and this additional app was malware. I had to dig around to figure out what app had started doing this.

This article raises a lot more questions for me than it answers. How does this compare to iPhones? How about iPhones + iPad combined? How many of the Android devices are phones vs tabletes or other misc devices?

I'm making a game for Android that's Tamagatchi meets the Sims meets Civilization. I'm using libgdx as the foundation and building off of there.

Initially the game will be available in two modes, "Challenge" and "Freebuild"; the challenge mode will be time-limited or resource-limited challenges to take your tribe through. The Freebuild mode will just let you grow your tribe in a set environment like a tamagotchi/sims game - get them foraging/hunting for food, building shelter, etc,.

Ultimately I want to add a third mode, "PvP" where you will play in a large world populated with other players and you'll need to cooperate and coexist or crush them depending upon your play style.
