In the age of AI, I very strongly feel Electron will succumb to eventually fading into obscurity. It's clunky, resource intensive, and a PITA to work with. Getting Claude or other frontier models to write a WinUI/ Swift app is going to be common place and preferred over Electron for most use cases. Electron filled the gap of being able to write desktop apps but only being armed with JS knowledge.

A company I worked for wrote a kiosk app in Electron, which was a focal point of the business. The pains the devs encountered with development and support is a perfect example of "just because you can write it in JS doesn't mean you should"

I don't even know what's left to say. This administration's actions are going to sow so much distrust in the US as a leader in innovation that I don't see how it can recoup its losses. We heard for decades about China being the leader in tech but it never seemed to take hold, but now it feels as if we're deliberately handing them the torch and telling the world not to trust us anymore. It's pathetic and despicable. All I can see is US tech jobs suffering in the foreseeable future as we lose out to Chinese innovations.

Definitely buggy and flaky behavior but I'll be damned if that wasn't good for a single AI prompt.

In terms of innovation it's hard to not notice what they're doing. Just look at smartphones, all of the best flagship phones right now are almost exclusively Chinese. Again, from just a technological standpoint- it feels like we've fallen behind. American car manufacturers are fighting so hard to keep Chinese EVs out of America by labelling them a security threat, but given how feature rich and cheap they are it just feels like they know they can't compete.

Currently, Nothing's offering is just mid-tier budget phones. They seem good for what they are but not great. They get mediocre reviews.

It says no data retention or training on your data, but I assume that doesn't hold true for the frontier cloud models you connect to?
