People focus so much on "cost" and "profit" that it seems to lead to short sighted decision making.

You are not a professional at everything and you don't know what you don't know so things that seem easy might not be and in fact could have significant dangers. A person that does the thing every week is going to be efficient and knowledgeable. It also creates jobs and supports the economy. A lot of strong independent types are frugal and arrogant and self centered to the point of being a miser.

Those big spenders are called whales and they get explicitly targeted and catered to. Those business models choose the predatory path.

The practice of pay benchmarking using private data is egregious because of the very detailed publicly available data from BLS.

There are people who make a lot of money from the consumption of gas and tires and oil. Also the manufacturing and selling of automobiles. Those people make a lot of financial contributions to politicians and sometimes become politicians themselves.
