In the 2000s, many younger people (sub-30s) moved to the bay area to participate in the boom.

When things went sideways, many returned to their home state and/or moved back in with their parents. The local San Francisco rental market subsequently crashed.

I have enabled 2FA on my Amazon account and also on my root AWS account. In order to log in to AWS using my root account, I must enter two 2FA responses: one for my Amazon account, the other for my AWS root account. It's weird!

Is this really “simpler” as they claim? It reads a bit like the honeymoon phase and I’m a lot more interested in how they feel about the new stack 1 or 2 years down the line.

Crusty stalwart here. I'd love to get off crusty VPN concentrators. I'd personally love to see something in the open source space that supports 2FA and a rich, user-based policy language. Tailscale is trying to deliver an enterprise product that builds this on top of Wireguard. I'm not aware of any open source approaches tackling this problem like Tailscale, but I'm keenly interested.

GCP is fantastic! I've been especially pleased with their network (the GLB is awesome!), BigQuery, Bigtable, GCE live migration, and of course... GKE. I cringe at the thought of having to run Kubernetes myself or settle for an inferior managed solution from Azure or AWS.

I tend to agree with this statement. I have been tracking WireGuard as a potential replacement for PulseSecure and it's a far ways off. We need 2FA and SAML support along with dynamic address assignment and logging before we can make the case to replace PulseSecure.

It's like this already -- you pay yearly maintenance fees for access to software upgrades. If you let it lapse and then want to re-enroll, you're still on the hook for the lapsed time. Maintenance fees typically don't include your support contract fees, either.
