Looks like an interesting software project, bringing powerful and cool libraries to the arduino ecosystem.

Too bad they chose the "let's make a redundant copy of the pi zero-w (or another 10k boards out there) without any actual application specific hardware" model of monetization.

This is really a software project, and the people doing it are looking to sell hardware to fund the development?

To me, many worlds + time (as an inviolate observed vector) being merely a consequence of our inability to observe without moving foreward in time based on our entropic process driven cociousness, seems by far the most comprehensive explanation of observable phenomenon.

That observational uncertainty increases as the probability of direct interaction decreases (distance, time) strongly supports the hypothesis that observable phenomena are dictated strongly by the presentation and characteristic relationship of the observer to the phenomenon.

We know on the micro scale that all possible states exist simultaneously.

It seems logical, even axiomatic then that on the macro scale the same applies, but that we can only observe the bandwidth of states in which it is possible for us to exist to make the observation.

To claim that this state uncertainty is magically resolved in all cases and coherently for all possible observers into a single set of states seems an extraordinary claim requiring extraordinary evidence.

Depending on the magazine dimensions (single stack is hard) Reliable magazines can be largely 3d printed, as can the follower and the jigs used to bend piano wire into proper springs. The 3d.printed.mag will usually have less capacity than a metal one though.

Hybrid motors using solid fuels (plastic, rubber, cardboard, even sausage) and liquid oxidizer (typically nitrous oxide) are pretty common in hobby rocketry. These can be trivially made throttleable within a range by metering the NO2 flow. With the proper fuel core, they can be kept "smoldering" for shutdown / relight by maintaining a trickle of oxidizer to keep the fuel surface at combustion temperature.

Liquid electrode batteries transcend the "unfortunate tetrahedron" paradigm in many ways. By isolating the reactants from the reactor, "unlimited" storage and near-instant "recharging" (exchange of discharged for charged electrode solution) are possible.

This seems to be the most promising paradigm for achieving the needed energy / power density without making a more than mediocre bomb in the process.... Unfortunately, the process is best suited to larger installations due to the inherent complexity, and scales poorly to portable applications.... So still tradeoffs, of course.

Obviously, this is very sticky moral ground, and I don't claim to absolutely have the answers....

But I think there is merit to the idea of personage. Types of dolphins have been declared non-human persons, as have some primates, by several governments. There is some significant evidence that elephants may also belong in this grouping.

I think that at some point, an individuals awareness and potential for moral autonomy becomes significant enough that it deserves recognition as such by others with similar capabilities.

I don't pretend to know exactly how to judge this, but I think it is possible as we gain knowledge about the nature of intelligence to make judgements on this criteria.

I think that all animals (and plants) should be treated humanely within the practical possibility of doing so (I subscribe to the "if you can't fix it, try not to break it" philosophy) but I think it is farsical to attempt to equivilize the moral significance of dogs and pigs with that of humans and primates.

From a technical perspective I found this story compelling, so I tried out a simple hack to see if it were "possible".

Using an attiny85 uC, a couple resistors, a cap, and a couple diodes I had laying around, I was able to wire up a two terminal "device" that pretty much acts like a 5k pull up resistor on a I2C line.... But when you pass data through the signal line (SDA) wire it can read and modify it. It is crude and very limited, but it works (only at lower I2C data rates in this case, but hey, it's a cheap hack).

A nation state adversary could trivially miniaturize this to the size and form of an SMT resistor, and use a much more capable uC in the process.

Im not saying that this substantiates the Bloomberg story in any way.

Just saying it's a great (black hat) idea, and it works.

If the clutch pedal was seemingly disconnected, that would be due to a loosened flare nut or a backed off cable end/clamp/adjustment. Likely Wouldn't even show up on a diagnostic scan (except possible low clutch hydraulic fluid).

I'm glad you're not the majority. Because the world would be pretty shitty if all the police responded to was physical assaults and above.

Only ancentotal, I know, but every time I have called the cops for any reason in my life, the situation was arguably made worse for everyone present... In some cases, severely so.

In m several cases, the threat of deadly force was brought into cases where nothing but a stern hand was needed. In one, it almost resulted in the death of the person that was actually doing the most to help the situation.

I will never again call the police for any reason unless I think with some certainty that a life will be lost if I dont.

What you say is true for silicon, but Turing complete molecular machinery is already out there, we just have yet to master its intricacies.

The nightmare AGI scenario likely involves molecular computing using a chemically optimal code-base and engineered lifeforms a version or two up from current DNA microcode.

This is most likely to be created by a human-AI collaboration, which will be innocuous enough in itself.... it's the creations at this level that have the potential to replace us. Would that nesecarily be bad? Or just an enhanced form of human evolution?

I realize that this is an outlier.... But I was raised in an aboriginal type environment (and my children's early experience was in a similar environment by risk) when a single episode of unruly behavior could result in serious injury or death.

In this environment, spanking was used as a proxy for these irrevocable natural consequences, to give teeth to (an often invisible to a child) danger without letting iit bite.

I'm pretty sure that the use of (comparatively insignificant) physical punishment prevented serios injuries or death multiple times.

As a child gets to 4 or 5 years old and have had time to see obvious mortal dangers avoided and the counsel of their parents validated (backed up by the minimum necessary force and ample explanation and demonstration if possible), it is rare (in my experience of child raising) that a child won't heed the counsel that they have seen proven true time and again.

As a species, we've survived eons of dangerous environments, and it wasn't due only to watchful parents.... Children are no fools once they get get to 5 or 6 years of age and can navigate dangerous environments with skill.

OTOH, when almost all of the corporal punishment I have seen doled out in public has been reactive, not well considered, and not accompanied by proper counsel, as well as with children far too old to still need that kind of correction.... So IMO it is often misused.

These days I usually just drop in a 6 pin microcontroller though. Less external parts, cheaper, less environmental instability, much more operational flexibility, and often I can have it perform several circuit functions. If I go to 8 pins, woah, look out!

Sad part is, that usually the "super simple, bulletproof" analog solution with just 5 parts usually ends up being more expensive in qc, bom, and board space that throwing a million transistors at it.

Passive components like a line conditioning resistor or cap could be changed out with an identical looking malicious component. Such a chip could perform effective MITM attacks against anything that talks on a serial line such as I2C, SPI, etc. This is pretty much a universal zero day for on board controllers, FPGA's, and anything that loads its boot code unencrypted.

..... Such a device would not be detectable by xray (micrographic xray maybe?) , ultrasound, visual inspection, circuit analysis, or signal analysis until it was activated by a particular bitstream, possibly as part of a firmware update released by the manufacturer.

The thing missing from this analysis is that on data bus lines like SPI, I2c and others there are "passive" components like resistors and capacitors used for signal conditioning and line bias. If one of these components were replaced with a highly integrated IC, it would be possible to mimic the function of the passive component most of the time, but sometimes hijack existing data streams as a MITM.

This can be used to insert alternative boot code, firmware, microcode, or even FPGA structures.

Note that the component would not have to generate its own signal source, because by merely inserting a lower than normal resistance or capacitance it could alter an existing bitstream to reflect the desired payload.

It would require a high degree of integration and power management finesse, but is certainly doable to replace an existing SMT resistor or Capacitor with such a device. .
