Maybe we as a society should decide that having children is fine when you don't have a stable career yet and finance it as such. The contradiction that our most fertile years are also the most unstable is something society could and should balance.

We have to find a new equilibrium for fertility that does not depend on opression of women. This could very well mean we need more rights, most of all more stable, plannable lifes i think. The old opressive ways of ensuring fertility are gone and without major societal upheaval they will not come back. I think that is good and we should focus on alternative solutions.

The way I see it, joining social media requires your account to be bound by a chain to either a corporation or some rando. I'd much rather bind myself to some random person on the internet because at least there is a chance that they will treat me like a human. A corporation just does not care. The fediverse is run by humans. Good humans, bad humans, but humans at least. This you will never get from a company, at least not in the long run.

The question of what is art is a philosophical one and does not have one conclusive answer. While I like your definition it is not __the__ definition of what art is nor is it agreed upon by all artists. I like to think art is anything that speaks directly to us, moves us or inspires us.

One thing I have trouble wrapping my head around is blatant scams being advertised on reputable sites and apps. As I understand sites run ads through advertisement networks, but why are those networks not required to vet the ads that are bought for obvious scams. There should be regulation that requires these networks to vet each ad that is bought. With that in place at least the scams would not follow us everywhere on the web.

Maybe landlord coops could be a solution. Band together to co-own with multiple small landlords and share the risk.

Years ago I volunteered at Monique's for 3 weeks with my brother. It was a great and interesting time and I met a lot of cool people in Monique and her family and other hikers and volunteers. No, I think the free market is an ideal system, a model. A bit like a harmonic oscillator in physics. The reality is more complicated.

This train of thought always strikes me as similar to religious thoughts. "You think what the market does is unfair? But it is the market it can by definition not produce any unfair results."

Any argument about fairness is swiped away by explaining that this is just how the market works. But the chance that the market always produces fair results is very unlikely unless you come in with the presupposition that the market is by definition always fair. I guess if this is your only moral belief this starts to make sense.

How about an exemption for one house/apartment? If you use a house for personal purposes, e.g. to live there then your point stands but in case of commercial purposes the tax is something that should just enter your business calculation.

I wonder how you can be so sure about digital logic not being able to produce subjective experience? How is being able to describe how a mechanism works related to knowing if it feels something or not?

We have no sure way to tell if any other human experiences anything or if they are philosophical zombies. This is just something we have not figures out how to measure conceptually let alone technically. Where do you take the confidence of judging whether the AI has subjective experience in this case?

Do you think that there is something still to be found in the human brain that will explain why we (humans, animals) uniquely have subjective experience and others (AI) are zombies?
