1. Networking and keeping contacts. Not LinkedIn which I have found to be completely useless and full of lunatics and weirdos. Good old fashioned email and exchanging details when you work with other people. Check in with people occasionally to remind them you still exist. I have to turn work away.
2. Mostly bullshitting people then winging it.
If you start with a sieve and try and plug all the holes to make a bucket you're going to end up with a leaky bucket.
My initial point was a really that there are terrible privacy implications and poor track record of actually treating the customer well, as if that wasn't obvious.

I can't see that happening at all. The idea gives little utility over the top of the last big leap (smart phones) with a lot of additional costs and problems.

Yeah it’s super cheap if you use the pooled service. Back in the 90s it was $1000 for 3 eurocard sized boards if you wanted them in under 2 weeks. This was a big problem for us so they built a PCB lab in house and it’d still take 3 days.
Now I can get the same to my door in under 2 weeks for $60. And they actually test the boards!
Not sure where my DNS from my ISP (Zen in UK) but nothing is ever blocked or broken. I’ve stayed away from the big providers because of their target size.
I can go earlier: I was designing them in the 90s.

Got a 9 year old iPhone 6s here. Actually still perfectly usable and annoyingly fast compared to my 15 Pro. Was getting patches until July 2024 as well.
When one phone falls off the bottom of the stack another one goes on the top of the family stack. In service we have a 15 Pro, 13 Pro, 12, XR, 8 and the 6s. I'll push Pro phones down every two years now. Occasionally something needs a new battery and that's about it.
As for usability, there are a couple of problems but once you get used to it and why, meh. Safari+AdGuard (free) is excellent and a lot less dicky than Firefox on Android.

50/50 on that. Had a near miss there. Borderline type 2. Blasted weight down from 115kg to 65kg and changed diet.
Now I still eat pizza, pasta, bread and chocolate all the time. Just reasonable amounts of it as part of a balanced diet. And not the crap shovelled out by fast food restaurants.
Indeed. The problem is that there is no regression suite clearly. Sometimes things get broken and then have to be fixed again. You end up in situation where you need to tell a person to use a specific version and hope they know how to get it working.
This makes communication, which is a really big part of mathematics, extremely difficult.

Not performance heavy here. What I do require is something that is less buggy though. Maxima has zero to no test suite so there are regularly stupid regressions that break everything.
They buy it because they want to tell people it cost $25k.

It's fucking shit. I hate every moment using Maxima. I'd rather pay for Mathematica but my org is too cheap for that. There you. Enjoy :)

SBCL is fine. It's Maxima that is full of bugs.
Yes it's terribly buggy. Incorrect answers sometimes depending on release versions and solve gets stuck all the time. I tend to use Xcas/GIAC instead where I can. Also bundled on my calculator (HP Prime).
It's so bad that the university I "loosely associate" with have their own patched version to fix a load of problems with it.
Stable yes. Buggy yes. There are all sorts of problems it gets stuck on. solve() is terrible.
But Maxima, which is horrifying buggy.

The marketing and the reality are somewhat different. Ignoring the fact that “the west” isn’t one political regime, it is about balance. While the US prides itself in allowing people to run around cosplaying as nazis under the guise of freedom, other countries consider that to be offensive and would legislate against it.
It’s a wide spectrum. Any extreme of censorship and a complete lack of censorship and control will quickly lead to the decline of society. Nuance is where everything is. No absolutes.
Double standards happen in international politics. Things are regional and promoting certain events are considered a security threat as it’s not exactly as if there isn’t a problem with terrorism from radicalised Islam in the UK.
Also worth noting that the content of this is considered distasteful among the Muslim community here as well. It makes them look bad too.
Stuff like this sows the seeds of division between the communities.
