I’m in a similar situation and agree with everything you’ve said. Although I enjoy the ritual aspect of weed I’ve also found that I enjoy the actual effects far less than I used to, and when I take a few weeks off I don’t really miss it.

The worst part is the 3-4 days after quitting falling asleep becomes quite difficult so I need to make a point to go on long runs/bike rides to fall asleep easier

I’ve only started to notice this in the past year or so, it’s a bizarre feeling compared to just a normal hangover. Certainly dissuades me from drinking too much now.

If your alma mater is what I'm thinking of (UT Austin) I can maybe share some insight on the current situation. The introductory courses are all still taught in Java and the lower-division systems courses are taught in C. From what I know about the curriculum it is entirely possible for a student to go their entire undergraduate career without expanding from these two languages (maybe they'll need Python for a class or two). This past semester I took our PL course which was taught in Haskell. I thought it was an interesting course and strengthened my base in FP (my high school taught CS courses in Racket where I started my foundation). However this was not a large class and from discussion with peers there is generally little interest in learning "esoteric" languages such as Haskell.

I got an email from my recruiter at a medium-sized VC-funded startup in Mountain View basically saying “if things don’t change by June we won’t be able to continue move forward with your internship”. I appreciated the transparency and that’s about as good of an an answer as I could’ve expected given the sheer uncertainty of everything going on right now.
