Hmm that’s a good point, I hadn’t thought about team size. Although even with a large team, there may be limits to what you can do if the product must be cross platform. It’s funny I use windows myself so this is not a feature for me, I’m really just trying to see it their way that’s all.

They do that for the rest of their audience, for whom that is important motivating context, or just informational context. I think It’s a good approach to writing, and it’s he really awkward to their main readership otherwise.

There’s even evidence that this is true, for who knows their audience better than them? You, while making up a a portion of the audience, are not the main portion, or so it seems, unless they don’t understand their audience that well after all... although that seems pretty unlikely

What are you arguing? You wouldn’t take the position that it’s guarenteed to succeed, that seems absurd to me. The person you replied to only made the point that it could fail. And in your reply you actually took the opportunity to degrade artists and thinkers, which seems cruel and unnecessary.

You’ve found a flaw, I think a pedantic one, in the example they gave.

Here’s an example that is less flawed, and I think if you had considered their point rather than sought minute flaws you could see this yourself: the palm note vs the iPhone. Hopefully, even if my analogy is not literally flawless, you can take my point.

Also, sorry for spamming you, something you wrote struck me and I wanted to see what else you wrote. Hope you don’t mind this.

Did you really need to call me ugly? Lol

I fear a loss of security. You’re overthinking it to say I’m attached to the fact that our security comes from threats. Security is what matters, not being threatening. I think your comment is a little bit rude to be honest, but that’s not a big deal.

feel free to eviscerate me

Off topic but I’d like it quite a lot if people could be informative without being eviscerating lol. I suppose this doesn’t usually happen, but it should happen more. That’d be so much better, so much more tolerable and happier. It’d be good for all of us probably lol.

Yes absolutely they do matter

1) how accurately are you pretending to be an extrovert (chances are youre broadly failing if its unnatural)

2) how much energy are you spending pretending to be an extrovert (chances are a lot if its unnatural)

The internals are more important than "do i finally sound like an extrovert? introverts are such losers!"

Fact Checks 9 years ago

Suppose a left leaning fact checker is more critical of conservatives? Many believe this is common.

"Conservatives just lie more"

Suppose they are more critical regardless of this (of truth)

And what about statements which can be interpreted as false by an uncharitable reader? This is extremely common.

Yes I see how this goes, but I don’t see your point. I don’t agree with the conclusion that the existences of mutual distrust is proof that distrust is wrong, and I do t think you’ve provided any argument besides that.

I don’t see why my distrust of China implies to people that China is not allowed to distrust me, or that I’m somehow saying that They’re unique. This is a statement of fact. This is reality. I’m not being prescriptive here. I would personally like for China to be more friendly towards the us and vice versa but I’m not sitting here saying the us is perfect or free of sin. I don’t see why the us must be perfect before I can announce what is already reality, that I distrust China.

Perhaps you shouldn’t read my post as a diplomatic action, something that I just said as part of an argument to try and manipulate China or something, because that’s not what it is. It’s a statement of fact and some analysis on the cause. I’m not trying to criticize China or convince China to change, even if I would definitely like that to happen, and think it should.

I feel threatened by China, because I don’t trust them. There’s not much more to it. I fear that they might abuse their power or use it to destabilize the West. There’s a lot of hatred of the Us, and I don’t want them to try and trample our norms, culture, society... things which I care about and am deeply connected to.

That’s not to say they actually would do any of those things, the key point is the lack of trust, specifically trust that they would do anything to benefit us or protect us or that they care about us at all. I don’t trust them, and the specifics of what they could do to hurt us are not really something I consider (but as they become more powerful they have many more options... to the point where one day maybe we are dwarfed by them and have no ability to defend ourselves should we need to.) China is very scary to me.

It sounds to me like you are projecting this authoritarian idea into these uis

Truly, what more ui should a photos appo have? Any addition would just be clutter.

Compare to iOS photos ui- they’re very similar, but you wouldn’t call iOS photos authoritarian, because it’s not your goal!

Or maybe I’m missing something authoritarian about these uis

Vim after 15 Years 9 years ago

When I was talking about discoverability I meant assuming you don’t know all the exact command names and what they do. I thought you neeeded to know the exact command name to use :help, so I’m not seeing how that’s an answer here.

Also, yes the mouse can be slow for some purposes, but if you’re not in a typing frenzy it’s probably easier to be in mouse mode which is something like reading mode. Scrolling is much easier for me outside of vim than inside of vim. Also I considered that this is maybe a better match to my workflow, which is often more readingand thinking than actual keyboard input. So it’s ok for keyboard input to be less prioritized. For this workflow having inline documentation, intellisense and compiler errors as you type is fundamental.

Also I doubt I ran into the beginner traps. I used it pretty seriously and exclusively for a year or two and am still proficient at navigating. I even got into using macros like other commenters mentioned, and learned all the different edit mode shortcuts (cxsSDCiaAOo). Seriously editing in vim is really really fast. Although maybe there are traps for people that I don’t already know about, and you could fill me in on those.

Is there anything better than this kind of drama? Obviously I feel sorry for those hurt, and this sort of behavior is awful, but as an onlooker I live for these days. Nothing more entertaining than all the drama in the wake of something like this. Hope no one takes this as an endorsement of the behavior or support of being a bad person. Maybe you can look at this comment as directed at other people like me, with less involvement in this world, and maybe that will make it easy for you to ignore if you’re involved in this drama! Sorry for the monologue I just don’t like getting downvoted
