Something I genuinely don't understand: everyone is saying that with DST, the sun rises later in the day. But as someone who doesn't work first shift and regularly goes to bed anytime between 04:00 and 06:00, I can tell you with certainty that in the summer time (when DST is active), the sun always comes up *way* sooner. I typically despise DST because I always struggle to fall asleep due to the damned sun coming up right as I go to bed.

Meanwhile, in the winter, the sun typically doesn't start to rise until closer to 08:00.

You know, not all of us wished for him. Many of us not only saw all this coming from a mile away, but also fought against it every step of the way.

I would not say have pity for everyone, but at least have pity for those incompatible with our cruel society who are nevertheless stuck within it.

One thing that happens a LOT in retail is, say if a store closes at 10pm, a customer will walk in at 9:58pm, be there for 30 min to an hour, and employees HAVE to stay until they leave and cannot kick them out. If they do, they can get written up. Not all businesses do this obviously, but I've worked in retail long enough to have seen this happen a lot.

If you're not experienced in media servers, I'd recommend a QNAP NAS and then install either Jellyfin or Emby. (Plex has really gone downhill in the last 10 years imho.) QNAP is terrible for experienced users, but as Baby's First NAS it's absolutely sublime.

Exactly. A lot of these people forget that they will be old too someday. Treat the elderly like shit now, you'll be treated like shit later.

(Also, I love the Half-Life reference in your username btw. ;) )

Speaking out of genuine curiosity here, but what kinds of photos are you taking that require HDR?

Same with youtube. I only log into my Google account like once a month to check Gmail (it's not my daily driver), and I just "subscribe" to channels using RSS. But so often my feeds are red. Not always, but a lot of times at night (UTC-4) for sure.

Like there was something in the American DNA that was lacking in China

In most Americans' eyes, unfortunately, there was. It was just known by the name "American Exceptionalism". Yes, it's nonsense, but unfortunately it is nonsense that has historically been used by most empires throughout history, and believed just as fervently by said empires' populi since it's one of the central elements of imperialism as a whole.

Not parent, but while I can appreciate your viewpoint, I would like to point out that many many many books have abridged, reworded, simplified, or disambiguated versions for different audiences.

The Bible is I daresay the most famous of these. Translations aside, even the English versions have had significant alterations done to wording, spelling, and meaning depending on the version.

There's also the Great Illustrated Classics imprint for certain classic novels like H.G. Wells's The Invisible Man. (I read that one like 10 times as a kid and it's what got me into sci-fi as a whole I'd argue. Haha.)

Whether these alternate versions are good or bad is obviously up for debate and depends on the person, but I'm just saying that what SE does is hardly new in the publishing world.
