I think it's fine. For things that aren't too expensive where I am fortunate enough to not have to be price-sensitive, I don't bother with coupons beyond a cursory Google search.

To be frank I think Apple should be able to provide a superior experience on the stack they directly control, but given that Google has been raked through the coals for much less, it's only fair to be consistent.

Only about 7500 or so Green Cards are issued every year to Indians in each employment based category (capped due to the per-country cap that's applied to India, China, Mexico) in each of the few employment based categories. The number of people who have applied for these categories in the last 10-15 years is much more than 7500 a year, typically almost 10x, so the line moves at a glacial pace, usually moving a month every year.

The line for EB-2 and EB-3 (where most Indians are) is currently servicing those who applied in Summer 2012. So if your colleague got in the line in say Summer 2015, that's 36 months away. At the current pace it could easily be 20-40 years before their turn comes.

Also remember that there was a massive tech boom in the 2014 to 2019 period, so a LOT more people applied during that time so the movement of the line will slow down even beyond the current 1 month per year rate. If your colleagues applied in 2016 or beyond they are unlikely to get it in their lifetime unless the per-country caps are removed.

This is precisely why it enrages me when all HN discussion about Git devolves to the same stuff about how it's complex and this and that.

A technical person who has general sense about basic data structures (Leetcode nonsense not needed) can be taught Git in under 2 hours and they will retain this knowledge forever.

If you can't invest that little time to learning a tool you will use everyday and instead will spend hours Googling and blindly copy-pasting Git commands, that's on you, not on Git.

I regularly conduct 2 hr long "Intro to the Git Data Model" courses at my workplace (1-2 times a year). I literally take them into the .git directory and unzip the files to show how everything is just plain text representation of basic data structures. It's honestly cool to see it click in their heads.

We have a basic Git cookbook we share with any new joinees so that they start committing code, but most of them just follow it religiously and don't understand what's going on (unsurprisingly).

However, literally everyone who attends the course comes out with a reasonable working understanding of Git so that they know what's actually happening.

That does NOT mean that they know all the commands well, but those can be trivially Googled. As long as your mental model is right, the commands are not a big deal. And yet, the vast majority of the discussion on HN on every single Git post is about the command line.

Funnily enough the class sounds a lot like the alt text of https://xkcd.com/1597/ (Just think of branches as...), the difference is that that is unironically the right way to teach Git to a technical audience, and they will come out with a fundamental understanding of it that they will never forget.

But I disagree with your comment about YouTube. I think YouTube recommendations work extremely well, and I only see videos that are related to the 5-6 topics I am exploring on YouTube in the previous few weeks. And when I explore a new topic I start seeing those recommendations instead.

I have never seen a Mr Beast video (or any other video by similar hucksters) on my feed.

You do need to be logged in though. But I use Premium, so that's a given.
