An integration test is a type of software test that makes sure different parts of a system work properly together.

So HBO has some integration tests that make sure their system can send email properly. The way it does this is by sending some test emails to a test email list.

Except somehow, someone made a mistake today and the test email got sent to the real email list of all the subscribers.

Does this not happen to most people with regular colds?

For at least the past 5-10 years, I've noticed that whenever I get more than a very mild cold, I completely lose my sense of smell for a few days. (I'm talking 100% loss, like holding bananas under my nose and inhaling and smelling nothing.)

I thought that was normal, but everyone making such a big deal out of the loss of smell makes me wonder if I'm unusual for experiencing it with regular colds.

Why do you only care about the lifestyles of people living in developed countries?

Also, even if we decide that we don't care about 4/5 of the world, increased flooding and wildfires are already affecting hundreds of thousands of people each year in North America.

Being a driver isn't predicated on mistakenly calculating your odds of winning big

Not exactly, but there are parallels. Most drivers don't take into account the costs of wear and tear on their cars, which can be significant, and Uber isn't transparent about how drivers should anticipate those costs. So part of your wages as a driver are essentially borrowing against the future value of your car. And it can take years before the wear and tear becomes apparent, so many current drivers may not have run up against that reality yet.

A couple of years ago, the Quebec government introduced additional restrictions on ridesharing companies. Uber got up on their soapbox and said they were pulling out of Quebec. The government called their bluff and basically said "Okay, bye" and Uber backpedaled. I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happens here.

Most of the people for whom $700/month for health insurance is unattainable are not spending $700/month on car payments. There's bound to be some overlap, sure, but let's keep the focus on the fact that expecting everyone to pay $700/month in order to not go bankrupt from health expenses is insane.

They lose their status when the school goes online, since they are not currently enrolled in in-person classes. They will probably have to apply to reinstate their status in order to return.

Even if those applications are likely to be accepted, dealing with immigration bureaucracy is an absolute nightmare and anyone who is even slightly an edge case is gonna go through hell.

Ok, maybe this is where our disconnect lies -- I also have friends who consider themselves "sluts" and have a lot of sexual partners, but for most of them it's coming from a very intentional place and brings them a lot of joy.

Note that these same friends also have stable, fulfilling (non-monongamous) relationships in their lives.

I think that's why I bristle when I see people equating slutty behaviour with lack of fulfillment or trauma. I think that sex absolutely can be an unhealthy coping mechanism; but so can alcohol, yet many people manage to use alcohol in a fun and safe way.

I think that presenting commitment and sluttiness as the only two options is harmful, and it keeps people in destructive sexual patterns because they don't think they can have broad sexual exploration at the same time as serious relationships, so they avoid relationships altogether. It takes a lot of work, but you can have both! And I think that the more we become comfortable with that as a society, the healthier we will be.

Have you considered that those who prefer monogamy and those who prefer sleeping around / being a "slut" simply have different personalities?

Just because your monogamous friends are happy and fulfilled doesn't mean your slutty friends would be happy if they lived the same way.

Humans are varied.
