I use this too. Maybe I like the beancount more, but having my finances available on the web to share with my so is valuable. Too many told are meant for one pers,on and don't support modern ideas like tagging.

I agree with the duality that you describe. Nevertheless, wouldn't the software part of an SDR reduce the need for expensive physical electronic components, while increasing ability? An amplifier seems to be the only additional expense (as you pointed out). It seems like the amplifier negates any cost benefit, yet utility remains superior if one doens't consider multiple components and building blocks a liability. It seems like there are expensive SDR transceivers (e.g. Flexradio) which utilize SDR technology to beat out the competition in specs and performance. To get on the air with a budget SDR, I haven't seen lots of demand for the idea. is the utility of a budget SDR just not better than your basic radio? It seems like it to me but where's the demand?
Does anyone have a good reccomendation for an HF transceiver? It seems like many popular SDRs are receive only or crazy expensive. I've been looking at the RS-HFIQ (https://www.hobbypcb.com/index.php/products/hf-radio/rs-hfiq) but it doesn't seem to be that popular and I can't tell if it's because it's got too much "hacker" in it for the average ham, or if something else is going on. Maybe I should just spend more money?

Let me offer a different perspective. Is rf engineering and research obselete? Should the ability to experiment be locked into spectrum owned by monopolistic companies? And from another angle, is an Arduino project that blinks an LED worthwhile? Spectrum is a limited resource and amateur bands are one of the last ways I know of for folks to experiment within radio without submitting for expensive fcc certification.
Radio is very decentralized. I wonder if that could be a nice avenue for modernizing the hobby.

Where I work in the healthcare area, we are trying to expand from the us into Europe. And interesting legal question is how to honor Europe's right-to-be-forgotten laws with the US's HIPPA requirement to preserve health care data for X years. As an employee it also feels awkward.

The scientific world may disagree. I work in bioinformatics and take a pay cut to do interesting work. It's not negative, but I'm not making a lot of money. Supply and demand- people are willing to work in a low pay field because the pot is sweet. Academia is pretty sweet gig and pays crap to work on hairy problems. UPDATE- teachers spend money out of pocket on their classes, is that negative income?
Maybe a faster release cycle will help Python and friends insulate from this issue better. Akin to os security updates.

I've been helping on the laravel v4 project. The devs are pretty friendly and I haven't found anything with a better UI than lychee. Three project doesn't do everything but what it does do, it does well.
