Am I crazy or is this just social/financial charity roulette for streamers. Also is there not inherently an issue building the foundations of a friendship on the predicate of one person being watched and the other having to watch and potentially pay the other? If one side doesn’t like or subscribe are they friends.

The idea that people turn to streaming to either support themselves or make friends and people feel the need to help them do so is everything right and wrong with society. It’s nice people are willing to support someone else and wrong that the most supported are often the worst and really we should just support people socially and financially outside of the streaming charity system we have created. I find it all a bit mind boggling.

Pure smear comment. Signal was and is the choice of personal messaging app for anyone I know who has ever worked in security or intelligence. That should say it all. Aside from apple, who did it because of them, it has set the gold standard for e2e chat. People moan about the phone number and “metadata” when in reality all this can be used for is to say yes x has a signal account and this is when they last used it. That’s it. It’s effectively useless to anyone. People moan about it leveraging the local social graph of the device it’s a necessary convenience for the adoption of any modern chat app. They go into great detail about how it is and isn’t used in a way that it cannot be used/viewed by others. Frankly I’d bet half the people smearing it have X and Facebook apps installed on there phones and really aren’t serious people. If I wanted to smear off topic I’d point out that telegram, along with the usual suspects, is a gold mine for intelligence gathering for what I’ve heard.

Honestly after reading this guys follow up rant about the CEO contacting him directly for an opportunity to address any of the points made in this post, this comes off as nothing more than a hit piece. Just saying ive said my piece and I have no interest in hearing any follow up or rebuttals is just classic modern day social media journalism. Would you prefer the additional resources required to deal with the issues outlined in the lawsuit come from “your tax dollars” or from those causing the costs?

It’s a classic socialize the costs privatize the profits situation where negative costs caused by private sector are paid for by the taxpayer.

Ironically your viewpoint if it were to stand will inevitably cost you more “tax dollars” when we have to pay the increased costs of dealing with these issues in schools rather than those responsible paying.

This is the closest looking open source one I’ve seen to linear which is by far the best kanban I’ve used maybe one inspired the other, either way looks good though linear is so polished. Introduced it to a client and it gets heavy use and the cycles concept is well liked

It was an observation of how every thread like this plays out not a “popular meta post”. I wouldn’t go as far as to say delusional I was more going for it’s naive to assign success purely to genius in the same way it’s naive to attribute a single cause or solution to climate change. In fact I think even that’s generous given that’s a future prediction that was not a guess or a gamble. Perhaps a better example would be for me to write a post about a massive successful stock trade or crypto where A) I had the cash to do it and B) things I gambled might happen went even better than I thought. There would be people assigning all the success to me when likely there were other similar plays I made that I lost big on as well as plenty of other people who saw it but simply didn’t have the means or timing to make it happen. So yes I think it’s naive to assign this and most to purely genius. You need a little luck and cash in reality on the way.

They have their own browser, the Orion browser, to funnel people onto their search engine.

Their search engine is also better than google for me for most use cases already, it has a clean and smart design with well thought out features that add value.

I hate that Orion is not cross platform and limited to apple ecosystem.

With that said it is native and my default choice for macOS and iOS.

No telemetry, ad blocker built in, performant and supports extensions from chrome and firefox - on iOS too.

Hands down the best native tree style tabs of any browser on the market on top of that and easy tab syncing.

It’s still in development but it’s stable enough for me to be my main browser.

These two products show some serious technical ability from a small team. I bet on companies who invest in and show technical ability over those with VC money, big names focused on marketing and growth.

Sure but the insights the author has had are that kids like fun and that cs education platforms have bugs. I don't see any original insights here tbh they are just insights that should be obvious to anyone who has ever stepped foot in a class room or used an interactive course.

There is also the fact that your examples and indeed the likes of khan academy filled a market gap or had a niche offering. The education platform market is saturated and if your entire product is to create and deliver educational courses for high school kids I'd wager teaching experience, and more of it, is key.

I can see you're point about newer teachers being more engaging with more energy and enthusiasm but there is a balance to be struck in education between engagement and experience/ability to teach. They are not the same thing.

I would also argue that while some of the most 'fun' teachers I had were newer, they were not the best teachers and many of the best teachers I had were older with far more experience but, like you said, had not lost their enthusiasm. When you apply that to the discussion in question I would argue that the author might indeed know how to engage with students, and has come to the frankly not so orginal conclusion that kids like to have fun, but does not have the experience/ability to do more than those that have come before.

Another user replied to my comment about Khan academys founder having no prior experience beyond tutoring relatives, well, there existed a market gap that no longer exists. What killer features are being proposed here? What are the technical solutions to the obvious technical issues that they point out? How do they plan to monetise this solution aimed at high school kids or indeed underfunded schools? How will they help teachers engage their students in the classroom itself via this platform - a poor teacher blames his tools - students need engaging in the classroom not online where you are competing with dopamine inducing auto scrollers.

I am sorry to hear that, it is a great shame of society that education is continually neglected, underfunded and politicised.

I believe it is largely accepted by economists from accross the spectrum that a key driver and indeed one of the only gurantees of long term economic growth is investing in education and yet we routinely do not do so to the point where it is simply not financially viable for teachers to remain in the profession.

As to your argument that 2-3 years is where you learn most, I would argue that is probably the same for ever profession out there, but the experience of time is what adds that extra 10%. Just like we complete 90% of a programming task in the scheduled time, its really that last 10% where most of the difficulty lies.

I’m sorry but you can’t be serious… you have 2 years of teaching, your essentially a junior teacher and your here to promote an education startup you’ve left to make to teach kids.

While normally I would applaud work in this area, the sheer arrogance to claim in your article you have the experience to build curriculum’s or indeed that you can build a better education platform for teaching kids to code with this experience is insulting to the teaching profession as well as those building existing platforms in collaboration with teachers and schools alike.

My parents taught for decades. In the same way an experienced programmer takes decades to hone there craft to the point where others should really take note of how and what they have to say, the same can be said for teachers.

Haven't had any issues with bitwarden or uBlock origin in Orion that I have noticed. There is perhaps a little delay when you click the extensions in orion to their ui loading but thats about it.

Have been using it for a few months now and its become my default browser on macOS and IOS. As I understand it for IOS the killer feature is extensions... I haven't got round to trying this yet.

On a side note it has by far the best native tree style tabs I have used and until firefox has an equivalent I won't be going back. (yes I used sideberry extension but like I said orions native implementation beats it hands down).

You can still have that combination with the Orion browser
