Just an FYI here: Google's community support forums aren't well named as their intended purpose is for users to answer other user's questions. For the community to support each other.

For actual support you need a paid account to reach out to.

Google famously underpays as it leverages it's name. Startups can't really compete on total compensation because so much is tied to equity which can be made liquid in the case of big tech. At the same time, startups don't want to give away their equity and are fairly conservative about it. I don't see this changing. The current situation will resolve itself in 1-2 yrs and we will be back again.

Every 3-4 years seems to indicate a better uptick in interest / offers in my experience. Otherwise the concern from many Hiring Managers is: I'm going to invest my time and effort (~6 mos) in training, and that will be lost very quickly.

In my view a promotion is every 3-4 years as well (although it can be faster) at the FAANG companies. If someone is able to get a promo, that is the best time to start looking. It establishes that the individual is on an upwards trajectory so it makes it easier to hire them and convince others if the company is committee based on hiring decisions.

This is an interesting argument. But this is effectively stating that Google has to be a good steward. If that is the case, then there really isn't much of a problem afaict (i.e. majority is happy).

If Google is treating devs and users well, there is no reason to switch. It's when they falter on one, migrations can and will occur (given past history as experience).

Almost always the answer to a question in a headline is No (Betteridge's law of headlines). I think there is a lot of wishful thinking about breaking SV's dominance. Reasons being that it is such a HCOL area and how great would it be to live elsewhere! Truth be told, high tech salaries are not as high in other regions compared to the COL (in the general sense). SV has at least two top engineering schools (UCB and Stanford), and many people are unwilling to give up the easy opportunity to switch jobs and _not_ move.

There is also this gravity effect of SV. People move to SV to get a tech job, so thats where the majority of them are. But from talking to folks, there is a real lack of available talent, so companies are forced to look elsewhere. From my own experience, there are not a huge number of available candidates in other areas either.
