Where does the government get its money to fund news? Either from the local population which is enforced support for an economically non-viable business or it can get money from other people who have no interest in the local news of another place far away.

If good local news is not profitable, then that means there is not enough interest to justify the cost of making good local news. This is not a failure of the free market to provide a critical public good. The free market is working exactly as intended, and what YOU call 'critical' public good, isn't really that critical, according to people who would actually consume said good.

And then you want the government to enforce your personal idea of what is 'critical' by forcing people to buy things they don't want.

Confucianism was chosen by the chinese power-that-be because he encouraged obedience and conformity. It's the reason Chinese society stagnated with a monolithic central authority. With a more libertarian approach, there would be more trade and research and given chinese huge population and food availability, they might have made a lot of technological progress and we would have a colony on Mars by now.

So in that way confucianism was similar to christianity during the dark age in that they were used by the powerful to sedate the masses.

Things like DRM can be fixed from the user demand side. If there are enough products on the market, then users can simply choose not to use products with DRM.

On the other hand, with issues like "banned encryption", if the government has its ways, there won't be any choice at all for the users.

There is an information asymmetry when I buy an apple at the farmer market. That doesn't mean that every time I buy an apple I'm getting ripped off by the seller.

No matter what you do, people's lives are at stake. Even an app that suggests which restaurant to go for dinner could cause somebody to die by suggesting a restaurant in an area with higher rate of accidents.

The problem is how little consumers have control of when it comes to healthcare. We like to hand wave and pretend that the rules of economics don't apply when it comes to healthcare so instead of having a market where a person can shop for medicine, doctor's service, equipment etc. it all is more or less just close your eyes go in the tunnel and you will be taken care of and any issue of choice with regards to money is occluded by 'universal healthcare is a human right'.

If I could go to a hospital who would then give me a brochure of all the equipments they use and I find out one of their supplier is a dodgy companies that have dodgy equipments and terrible bug-handling practice I would go to another seller just as I would a smartphone that uses a dodgy processor that is known to break.

Well the non-profit system isn't designed to allow people who embezzle money to be caught within a day or whatever. I don't think any accounting system is.

The fact that the thief is eventually caught shows that the system does work, and the amount of damage that has been done isn't fatal to the organisation.

There is going to have to be some amount of trust between the staff of an organisation and this trust can be abused to steal money, this is true in any organisation, it has nothing to do with being non-profit.

Finances are transparent to the public.
