The thing that keeps me on Firefox/Librewolf is the Holy Trinity of features:

- Profiles (with selector in-browser since 139 AFAIR)

- Container tabs

- Temporary containers

When some of the other browsers will have all these features, maybe I'll make the switch.

With Syncthing you don't need hosting. I use it for everything I can.

I'll give you my use case. I have 3 profiles, personal, scouts and fencing association. Each of these profiles syncs with its own Sync Profile (email), because they are all used on different computers, some of which are not mine and use the institution email for syncing.

The personal profile use my personal mail, and has various container tabs as needed.

The scouts profile use the scouts email for syncing, share with my fellow scouts.

The fencing association I manage syncs with my personal email in the association's domain, and it has 3 containers: association-personal (for my files and email in google workplace), association-admin (for managing the whole workplace) and backup (recovery email for the workplace and for some other external services before workplace).

With containers only the sync will not work, and also I will be nagged to "switch to this container" everytime I open a google-related page, which I use with 5 different accounts. Profiles and containers fit perfectly my use case.

My girlfriend is a general practitioner and used to work as out-of-hours service doctor . She swore (and her collegues agreed) that full-moon nights and new-moon nights were the worst: much more cases, much more serious and with strange/deranged/dangerous people.

So we did a pseudo-statistic research, taking notes on number of patients and severity of the illness. On full-moon nights and new-moon nights there were:

- 40% more calls

- 20% more requests for urgent care

- 35% more requests from drunks, drugs addicts and mentally ill people

Also, the vast majority of situations in which occurred some form of verbal abuse, violence or sexual assault (always verbal thankfully, but other colleagues were not so lucky) happened on those nights or the day before or after.

This was a "research" lasted for a year, 3 nights per week. We asked to work on it for her PhD, but no other doctor was willing to take part in it, and my girlfriend was too horrified from her experience as a out-of-hours service doctor to keep going, so it kind of died here and there.

Another poor decision from my governament, pushing Italy further beyond the curve of innovation and scientific research, banning an entire industry sector before it's even born.

Lucky for us, it's an useless law: if Europe choose to allow those products to be sold (which is currently not allowed), Italy must oblige.

The only actual consequence of this law, aside from prohibiting some names for meatless foods, is denying the birth of a whole industry sector.

With alpine and an external HD you just need to copy some file on a windows-formatted SD card to have a fully working system that doesn't even write to the SD.

Not by default. I did that running two instances of the executable and pointing them to different "home" folders.

NextDNS has a feature to block ads and tracking also from SmartTV's producers. Works wonders.

Another issue that I find absurd: if I share a folder with a group in gsuite (aka mailing list), and add or remove members to the group, the permissions are not automatically updated.

It's not really Neapolitan, it's Italian plain and simple.

Province of Udine. Yes, Eolo has been my provider for the last 10 years, I was one of the earliest adopters in the province. The service has always been good, but worsening in the last 2 years due to too many contracts been sold without improving the infrastructure. IE, during the lockdown I had to rely on the 4G network (even checking email was not possible through Eolo) and somedays I still have troubles.

If you use svn or git to track your files, both TortoiseSVN and TortoiseGIT when asked to compare two files (ie, "diff from last revision) will spawn the version manager integrated in office.

Is not perfect but it works.

Tested with TortoiseSVN 1.11.1, TortoiseGIT 2.10.0.2, MS Office 2010 on docx documents.

Yes, I'm in Italy. Maybe it's because I live alone in a small and really cheap apartment, I keep the heat off even in winter (I dig cold) and I try to not eat at home (only lunch at work in the cafeteria), but I never had money problems. Things will surely change when I decide to buy a house.

I currently use a 3-layered solution: browser blockers -> custom host file on each machine (StevenBlack hosts for linux and windows, nebulo for android) -> nextdns

I'm actually satisfied, but I'm trying to setup pi-hole+unbound on a cloudatcost host I own to reduce the load on nextdns, so far without success.

Tried this with a co-worker in the first days of smart working. It worked, but the only useful feature (in our context) was the file sharing, and it was confusing to setup and very slow to transfer.

Then I stumbled upon nebula (https://github.com/slackhq/nebula) and I stuck with it. It's by far the easiest way I found to setup an overlay network, and it checks all the marks:

- multi-platform (not tried on Android, but there are binaries for various arm devices, so maybe on termux...).

- P2P, with the option to use a fixed-ip device beacon as sort of DNS.

- works behind NAT if you use the beacon.

- very easy to setup and configure.

Now it's like we are working at the office again, with SVN, file sharing, chat, compilation servers, etc.

Definitely recommended.

[OT] Non-English speaker here. Is there any difference (in grammar and/or meaning) between "an FAQ" and "a FAQ"? I'm asking because it sounds good but it goes against the little English grammar I remember from school...

Slackware64 14.2 runs fine on my 10yo mediocre (for the time) laptop. Don't know about battery though, mine it's too old to be useful.
