In addition, it broadcasts that the sender is too busy with all their important work to spend time refining and proofreading, that you're getting their raw, unfiltered thoughts directly from them, not through an assistant, and that their time is more valuable than yours so the burden is on you to parse their stream of consciousness jumble for precious nuggets of their exclusive wisdom. The semiotics make sense, plus it's just easier and faster.

"The only people being arrested in the Uk are for supporting a proscribed group."
Why are you claiming that members of Palestine Action are the only people being arrested in the UK for speech? That is not true. Low-effort, bad-faith trolling contributes nothing to the discussion.

Then why did you say 80-year old women were "the type to sledgehammer police officers though apparently" and then immediate shift the goalposts? Further, the statement "The only people being arrested in the Uk are for supporting a proscribed group" is patently false; the UK government has not limited its arrests for social media posts to those expressing support for Hamas. You are not engaging in good faith discussion.
We stop collaborating. Technologists, engineers, and support staff make this machine run. It must be made personally infeasible to continue contributing to our own shortsighted destruction. The incentive structure can and must be changed.
Yes, only 3x rather than 2x. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treble_damages
Also just bad faith comments muddying the waters. The evidence has been abundantly available to any inquisitive minds to find out for themselves Musk's worldview, goals and especially his methods, the simpler explanation is they are merely following his example of corrupting online discussions with low effort rhetorical bait, whether they are aware of the imitation or not. The net is flooded with many such clones.
Can you provide evidence-based numbers of how many people's lives have been saved or improved vs how many have been ruined or ended in part due to the guidelines DSM? Or what the outcomes would have been had psychiatry not continued to rely on it as the gold standard? Without a comparison, a vague, unsubstantiated claim such as that is worthless.
Then make app switching better, replace the overlong animation with a snappy transition and make returning to the original app seamless. They're loading these phones up with RAM, they should be able to support true multitasking. The UX should be as natural as alt-tabbing between apps on desktop, and could be made even more fluid with proper design. But that's clearly not a priority.
After decades of consumerism, most consumers already have most of what they need/want, so in order to keep selling widgets, corporations must manufacture demand. Enough big screen TVs have already been built and sold to give every American a fully functional 60"+ screen in every room in their residence, enough lightly used ones to go around to completely negate the need to manufacture more. But profit must not go down for any reason, so they must invent gimmicks to push the latest and greatest model onto a public that can't even tell the difference without marketing propaganda.
The entire global economic system depends on the unceasing transformation of natural resources into a stream of disposable crap for the benefit of the ownership class and shareholding leeches. It's obviously unsustainable, but so are the mortal lives of those who benefit from the system. What incentive have they to save a world in which they will no longer have any stake? Better to live out their days in comfort and wealth by cutting down the saplings under whose shade they will never sit.
I say enough is enough.
At this point, I simply want to pick whichever protocol has the highest concentration of my kind of folks. The Discord audience is not it.
"Deeply, deeply deranged" is fairly inflammatory language to express your own reductive ignorance. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-BDS_laws#Anti-BDS_laws_in...
On the contrary, that detail makes it even more enraging. A real life Jean Valjean.
This to me is the most urgent moral issue of the day: our active stunting of our children's development. Our collective misguided and counterproductive approach to pedagogy does not cultivate a learning mindset but rather stifles children's enormous natural aptitude for exploratory play. We are doing it wrong and we know it. The curriculum we use isn't worth paying minimum wage to teach.
It could be different. It must be. We have role models to imitate, better methods to follow, resources and tools galore. What is needed now is organization toward common purpose. How does the internet bystander locate effective organizations to disrupt the march of folly? This is a situation where the pilot has gone mad and we must seize control of the aircraft but are too paralyzed by social forces to act.

In the '70s they called it "heightening the contradiction".
Market Daoism?
The market of markets must be free, or the idea of a free market is a myth. Which it is. Capitalism cannot simply be removed, it must be outcompeted by a superior usurper.
Then punitive measures are in order. Add it to the pile of illegal, immoral, and unethical behavior of the feudal tech oligarchs already long overdue for justice. The harm they have done and are doing to humanity should not remain unpunished.
Sounds like IEEE is in need of fresh leadership and soon. Complacency at this point is folly.
Yep, you're right on the money. The correct course of action is for those of use who recognize this to cease arguing on the Internet with those who don't and connect with one another offline. We're in dire need of something akin to a 21st century Continental Congress.
Yes, a lot of us feel the same way. It's clear to me the next step is for us to start coming together, grouping up and sharing our ideas. I read on the internet every single day people expressing these feelings and for some reason we remain impotent and helpless when we could be uniting and inventing. Where is the will? I can only hope it's simply happening outside the scope of my vision. But it really needs to be happening faster.
We are coming face to face with the concept of exponential growth itself. Humanity versus the feedback loop. And it will take coordinated genius to best such a naturally powerful foe.
Here's hoping this is the 21st Century Copernican Revolution. Have you played the game Outer Wilds?
Meanwhile the theoretical potential existential risks of advanced AI massively eclipse the capacity of crypto for catastrophic harm. The _good_ ending is if we merely waste a bunch of energy on slop machines to put millions of people out of work for the technofeudal overlords; an actual AGI breakthrough capable of exponential intelligence growth could go horribly wrong in ways already innumerably theorized and illustrated in science fiction and the mad scientists of silicon valley are enchanted by the siren's call, taking the warnings as instructions.
Economic chaos is one thing, Skynet is another. And then people with the power are stupid and evil. Joy.
Metal Gear Solid 2 makes this point about how "over the past 200 years, a kind of consciousness formed layer by layer in the crucible of the White House" through memetic evolution. The whole conversation was markedly prescient for 2001 but not appreciated at the time.
Humanity clearly must not go down this path, yet it does nothing to alter its trajectory. Those who study history are doomed to watch it repeat. It's hard not to develop distain for the collective stupidity, but more enraging is the impotent passivity of the best and the brightest. We seem unable to imagine a reachable future that is worth imagining, the daunting scale of our global problems stupefying us.
I'd love to change the world, but I don't know what to do. So I'll leave it up to you.
I'm more concerned about the possible negative unintended consequences of making it available to everyone first. Genetic modification is well-explored Pandora's Box in science fiction and present humanity seems so ill-equipped in collective philosophy and reason to handle a paradigm shift of that magnitude.
And how do you plan to deal with the latency of connecting the neurons of your brain to a remote virtual uplink? The speed of light limits the size of a virtual brain that is able to function in the same manner as a biological one. The truth is our understanding of consciousness and its neurological foundation is nowhere close to the level that would allow us to recreate it artificially. We don't even know how it works normally. It will not happen in your lifetime and you are going to die like the rest of us, and very likely this will not change even in the next thousand years.
You won't "migrate", it will just be a copy of you. Your conscious perspective will not transfer to the copy of you. You will still be bound to the original, even if a simulacrum of your mind is created.
"My name is Tom Hacohen.
I was born and raised in Tel-Aviv (Israel), lived in London for the last decade, and I'm now back in Israel."
I suggest you learn more about the conflict from different perspectives if you think the claim of genocide is "weak". Criticism of your country's extensive human rights abuses is not antisemitism. You are representing your country very poorly with this post.
Earth is the only home, any other planetary body would be akin to homelessness. Words cannot adequately express the sheer small-minded ignorance of these feckless technocrats, the unadulterated hubris to presume themselves remotely capable of surpassing eons of biospheric development with their fucking spaghetti code that can't even drive a car properly. With such a level of dangerous stupidity posing an existential threat to all life in this solar system, it is nothing short of the gravest immorality to allow such a dim-witted, mean-spirited, drugged-out, misguided moron to remain in a position of power and control.
There is no planet B.
