Tezos will be a big competitor. Its self amending mechanism allows developers to inject proposals on which the bakers are invited to vote on. Every ~3 months improvements are made. Its language allows formal verification. But the most important of all it upgrades itself without forks. It is liquid PoS since the beginning. Transactions or contract calls cost below 1 cent, due to steady implemented gas fee optimizations. This month 30M contract calls will be reached whereof almost all were done this year. More and more serious businesses are joining. https://tezos.com/ https://techcrunch.com/2021/11/15/entrepreneur-first-launche...
Some years ago I used the + feature in my gmail address. e.g. myname+ycombinator@gmail.com to track down which service is giving away my email address. It happened more than once that I could not log in anymore at some point because they started to disallow the + character in email addresses. I also got phone calls from some companies complaining that i misspelled my email address because there was their company name in it.

Tezos for example has the problem of missing liquidity. So they voted for protocol level liquidity called liquidity baking. A little bit of inflation is used to incentivise liquidity providing. It's an experiment but it shows the power of governance. See https://liquidity-baking.com/ for current liquidity.
For sure it will always be voted on something that is good for the chain or for the token. When its good publicity for a chain to vote for charity-baking you could solve human problems.
And now couple it with a e-brush input device :) Canvas rotation would also be nice. And a regulator for gravity.
If you're not aware of https://tezos.com/ then it is definitely worth to look into it. It's PoS since 2017, has smart contracts since 2018. It's a self amending protocol. A lot of improvements are already injected and a lot in the pipeline. For more information about the recent upgrade: http://doc.tzalpha.net/protocols/009_florence.html
Lots of defi products are already live on mainnet. https://better-call.dev/dapps/list
Imperative languages can also be formally verified. See the K framework for formal modeling and verification of EVM smart contracts.
Good to see that eth has the possibility too. It's a must have in my opinion.
Beware, the gas price might be low because there is no volume. Binance Smart Chain had a lot of difficulty the past 2 days because they underpriced gas cost and basically DOS-ed themselves:
I don't know how tezos would react when DOS-ed. The next upgrade brings some further optimizations with it. Gas will then be calculated using saturated arithmetic.
This is are very good question. I really don't know why the mainstream ignored this project so far. Compared to some other projects, there is no single person in the center of the project, so there is no one to be hyped. This is sad but it seems to be a disadvantage. The loudest are getting attention and with so many projects out there, the tezos community was a long time pretty silent. The smart contract language is completely different from solidity. Its a functional language which allows formal verification. This is one reason which makes it harder for developers to migrate to tezos. It's easeier to migrate to an ethereum clone. Sapling came with the edo upgrade this year, this allows privacy preserving smart contracts. Gas price is extremly low. A part of the nft hype has already migrated to tezos because of PoS and low gas prices. See the stats here https://better-call.dev/stats/mainnet/general The next upgrade is currently in the voting phase. When you're technically interested in it see here http://doc.tzalpha.net/protocols/009_florence.html
Last week a marketing campaign started, maybe you will see an add somewhere in the near future. A lot is going on in adoption atm, here a few recent news:
banking https://xtz.news/adoption/french-banking-giant-societe-gener...
gaming https://xtz.news/adoption/ubisoft-become-a-tezos-corporate-b...
stablecoin https://xtz.news/adoption/groupe-casino-with-11000-stores-to...
digital identity https://xtz.news/adoption/spruce-systems-makes-it-into-y-com...
A planned upgrade of 6 years? How would that be in the future? How long does it take to fix a minor issue? Tezos for example is able to evolve every 3-4 months without forking and is PoS since 2017. Also they're doing a better job on security. https://tezos.com/
The tezos foundation for example made a crowdfunding some years ago. People who donated in the project received an amount written in the genesis block. The foundation started the mainnet in a beta phase with some initial validators. Holders started to participate in the PoS process until it was decentralized.
I don't know. Eth is switching to PoS. Tezos, cardano and many others are PoS. Is there any plan for bitcoin to switch to PoS? When there are a lot of more environmental friendly crypto alternatives, what should stop governments to ban bitcoin mining?
Thanks for this conversation. It is truly very misleading. There is no implicit copyright. There are mentions about ownership and also contradictions. This generalization I made, was wrong.
The contract would give the buyer rights to use the content. When I'm the owner of a physical Picasso then I have the right to sell t-shirts with the motive on it. If someone else would do that, I could sue him. The same idea is behind this NFT hype, you buy the right to use the content. As far as I understand it.
So you say that ownership should be kept in physical contracts? There are usecases when you are the owner of something which is not in your physical possession. I don't care about that NFT stuff, collectible can make sense or not. What bothers me is to do it with so much energy consumption. When you are attracted to lose money, then just do it environment friendly. https://medium.com/tqtezos/proof-of-work-vs-proof-of-stake-t... Tezos has what it needs for that. NFTs on Tezos: https://kalamint.io/ https://www.hicetnunc.xyz/ Minting a NFT costs about 1 cent
It is self-amending so you don't need to fork. Everyone can inject an upgrade proposal directly in the chain... It allows formal verification and has already privacy preserving smart contracts. Which all are critical points for adoption in fintech. So why join the Vitalik project? :) https://tezos.com/docs/learn/what-is-tezos Currently they upgrade the protocol every 3-4 Month, which is super fast compared to others. The chain is also well decentralized.
I'm completly with you about the awareness of tezos. There was no marketing. In April they will start, what that means, I don't know. It is not a French project, when you look up https://www.nomadic-labs.com/ you see it's also UK, Switzerland, Japan ... The foundation (audited by PwC) is based in Switzerland. "We sustainably deploy resources that support the long-term success of Tezos." https://tezos.foundation/about-us/ They have about 1B USD to back the project, which is spent sparsely.
I don't know where tezos is in 18 months, but it's surely not dead.
Have a look into https://tezos.com/ its PoS
The ecological footprint it important in the nft space. https://medium.com/tqtezos/proof-of-work-vs-proof-of-stake-t...
At the moment approximately 40 transactions per second
NFTs on Tezos: https://kalamint.io/ https://www.hicetnunc.xyz/ Minting a NFT costs about 1 cent
A collectible card game called emergents will be based on the chain. https://coa.se/
Further adoption: Recently the biggest retailer in france has announced to develop a stable coin on tezos. https://www.coindesk.com/french-firm-launches-euro-stablecoi... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groupe_Casino
No worries about the fees. It has the ability to evolve. Every 3-4 months a proposal with upgrades will undergo a voting phase. All bakers (PoS participants) are able to vote on this to accept or reject the proposal. The source code is written in a purely functional language on which formal verification is applied. Recently the 5 upgrade was adopted, featuring sappling, privacy for smart contracts and more. Adjustements targeting gas costs have already been made in september. So it steadily evolves and takes the tech of other chains if needed.
Then you have to look into tezos. There are some marketplaces for NFTs one is https://www.hicetnunc.xyz/
Transactions on tezos are currently 9000x cheaper than ethereum.
https://twitter.com/ignoranceit/status/1370316451920379905?s...
People are free to do what they want with their money. But it's just stupid to do it on a monster like ethereum. You could burn toiletpaper to power a datacenter. But it is stupid.
When the tezos blockchain is used for NFTs then there is no PoW involved. The footprint would shrink dramatically. For me it is unreasonable to not mention a already existing infrastructure in an article like this.
And better infrastrucure. If theres a need for NFTs then just do it on a already PoS blockchain like tezos. The migration should not be that much of a deal. Infrastructure and community is there. Tools which would help to migrate smart contracts also. I think it is really the lack of knowledge, that there is a blockchain solving the actual problem.
I think it will still take years until the migration to PoS is done. Therefore why don't use a blockchain which is already PoS and has the needed infrastructure??? Tezos has everything needed. A lot of NFTs are beeing minted there right now. But it could be much more. It would make sense to spread the word instead of complaining about the bad impact PoW has. We should talk about the solutions not the problems.
Some years ago i was thinking about the idea to study astronomy. I read an article back then in which it was told that most astronomy students end up beeing a computer scientist. I don't know if thats true. But I took it as an advice to study computer science :) and I'm pretty happy with that.
It looks like the nft scene on ethereum is starting to migrate to tezos, because gas is cheap there and it is PoS since the beginning. I wonder how that would influece the ethereum commmunity.
When i read about observations like this, it makes me realize what a small jewel our planet is.
Don't forget, it is written in a purely functional language. So they are able to apply formal verification to the code. They adopted recently privacy-preserving smart contracts. They are able to adapt all the good stuff other chains are testing. Therefore some people say other blockchains are just their test net.
When people loose interest in stamps you have some scraps of paper. :)
How much would it cost on Tezos?
There is a collectible card game under development which i think is similar to Magic The Gathering. https://coa.se/ In this case it makes perfectly sense. It will be released on the Tezos blockchain which is already LPoS. https://tezos.com/
