I don't contribute to open source or have personal projects because I don't spend my free time doing what I do 40 hours a week to make a living. My 15 years of work experience is worth a maximum of 25%, so any company using this idiotic system would pass on me immediately. Open source and personal projects are fine, but in no sane world are they worth 65% of a resume's score.

i’ve been doing the same for a few years now. wireguard’s “on demand” feature is perfect for this. the odd time i’ll have to shut it off to get through a captive wifi portal, but otherwise it (along with browser ad blockers) has made mobile browsing significantly less terrible

i am really really tired of having to close 3 pop ups before finding out i can only read the headline of the article before hitting a paywall. wish hn would have a rule against unusable links like this, or a bot that automatically swaps to an archive link or something

we have these scooters in my (very touristy) town. they make an annoying “bing bong avoid sidewalks” sound when driven on the sidewalk, but that’s it. they don’t limit the speed to something annoying/reasonable like 3-4kph. tourists constantly blasting by people on the sidewalk, it’s not surprising to me that this sort of thing happens.
