Did they not even test their AI detection tool to verify that it can detect when something is human written? That should have been exactly as important as the opposite. Maybe a tool that checked that would be equally as ineffective and we’d move on from the subject entirely

I think it was Call of Duty 2 (when the franchise was still WW2-based) when they would show, in my recollection, an anti-war message including this one every time your character died. I think this was absent from later incarnations of the franchise.

I bought a condo that was pre-equipped with Casetas and due to the crappy app I thought “these are budget and terrible” but actually reflecting now they all work tremendously and I haven’t had a problem with any. If you think of reading as one means of consumption of information then the ability to read may just be outdated, and people are moving to new forms of information consumption. Reading was never particularly exciting for me even though I wanted to discover what was hidden (often buried) in texts and if you can get the information in a more engaging and streamlined way so be it. Maybe the issue is really the content people are streaming and the lack of critical thinking and not that they are streaming at all.

Ability to write wasn’t the original literacy! It’s about reading. If you can’t read code or commentary about code how are you supposed to write good code or formulate new ideas about what good code should be and propagate those?

I just don’t understand how this kind of thing can be legal. How can you say “I’m running a gambling game, and if you’re not that good at it you can bet as much as you want and lose as much as you want, but if you are good, you’re not allowed to bet more than would hurt my bottom line.” I don’t understand how you can have different rules for different customers like this

Is confabulation different from hallucination? If not I do suppose this is a more accurate term for the phenomenon except that the exact definition isn’t common sense without looking it up whereas “hallucination” is more widely understood.
I believe this is a personal problem of the author. I see a lack of self-control and self-determination where he is doing more of what his social group and technology want/enable rather than what works for him. For example the 77 tabs: how is that useful? The tech makes it possible but doesn’t endorse or require it and they don’t make money off of it. I find tabs become useless once there are more than eight or so in a window. I prefer to break out work streams into separate named Chrome windows that I can minimize and maximize when I need to. And also I still get into plenty of fights at bars but maybe that’s just me
Eef it’s a scary premise that each country has an AI mouthpiece trained on exactly what that country wants its citizens to be told. Under most regimes this is a bad idea

This is exactly an existing concern: flood the internet with LLM-generated disinformation, future LLMs get trained on it, those LLMs flood the internet with disinformation, the cycle repeats. This is why it’s a problem that LLMs can’t distinguish fact from fiction
