very interesting thought experiment here. I wonder how much it would take in a monthly subscription to offset the money they make in ads? picturing an Instagram without drivel and the crap and the manipulative behavior, that I would pay for simply to escape for 15 minutes. Curate the good content, heck create AI content I don't care I'm there to just mentally check out for a bit. Time lock it based on my prefs so that it respects me as a human being, doesn't try to feed off of me as a data source and I'll pay for that. I agree with you why is no one doing this? I can hear an argument about economies of scale, that it's just not worth the hassle, big guys too entrenched, but isn't that what we're all here to do... create new ways to disrupt?!?

very nice response idle_zealot, it's this level of human decency in comments that keeps me coming back to HN
I'm gdam sick of hearing about BBEdit updates and new features, I swear it's almost enough to make me buy another Mac just to get this amazing godlike editor back again, fk I miss it so bad... quit torturing me BareBones
would be inclined to use it just to flex that name "yeah I built this in Zero Gravity..."
srsly tho this looks slick & love the office refs / will go play with it :)
why not an Obsidian vault with a plugin?
I think this is a great way to frame the conversation and possible solution: reputation. things like accumulated karma or credits and IRL connections (big data will love this) all begin to feel dystopian whereas reputation I believe is something that everybody can get behind. It can absolutely remain anonymous, while still benefiting from IRL meetups for big reputation bumps (just use your handle). We all hang out in lots of places online, let that rep build and be used everywhere. Pretty sure they were trying to do something like this in the fedverse but haven't touched base on it in a long time ...
AGI via LLMs: No. The AI will need a natural understanding of the real world (the physics you and I live within) and ability to self-modify it's training (ie learn), so we're working on hybrid AI architectures which may include LLMs, but not rely on them. And imho Yes we are solidly on track to AGI <5 yrs 8)
chromecast - godsend on long hotel stays. need to dial in through my home (wireguard) so no license issues with streamers and once I connect my GL.iNet GL-MT300N-V2 to hotel wifi instant bubble of safe wifi for all my devices! weighs nothing, been using for 8 years rock solid.
Excellent reference Tried to name an AI project at work Electric Monk but too 'controversial'
Had to change to Electric Mentor....
With respect to energy balance comments and comparing this to other technologies: both processes of absorption and condensation are happening within the same material passively, meaning you do not need to put energy into it. The heat gained from absorption is lost in the next step of condensation. The impact of this discovery, therefore, is that you don't need the power of your AC or your dehumidifier or your moisture vaporator on the south ridge.
Always testing the AI's I thought this might be a fun one to watch how they think through it since it is about technology that they would not have been trained on. Grok thought through the process more thoroughly than I (B.S.ChemE) would've .

how about Google Buzz?

I for one am simply happy to see us trying to apply LLMs to something other than replacing call centers... humankind SHOULD be exploring and learning sometimes even when there isn't an ROI.
blog or self-publish on a platform I can pay you for your time, please keep going! I'm enjoying the premise and would love to read more!
