I think you misunderstand. They never hosted any content, they only linked to it. What we're saying is that the torrent database was upgraded from plain old filesystem storage of .torrent files to a more efficient/specialized database.

No! When using Tor, you are not trusting any single node, and that's the whole point. The exit node does not know your IP or anything else about you, and the other nodes do not know what server you're communicating with. And you should never send any personal information over Tor, such as your credit card, because the end server would be able to identify you and steal that information (and why would you trust the end server? The idea is not to trust anyone when using Tor.)
The Wikipedia article does a bad job on giving any larger perspective, that is, the fact that this is a drop in the ocean of hacking and cryptography wargames. [1]
It's huge. Normally, the curvature of the earth would make it impossible to detect anything at such distances. But the ionosphere's lower levels act like a waveguide [1], (and this tells you which frequencies you should listen on to take advantage of this).
The craziest phenomenon of this kind is whistlers [2]. Lightning strikes can be heard on radio at a point on the earth exactly symmetrical to the source, using the equator as plane of symmetry. In fact, the signal bounces around back and forth between the two points, following a line on the magnetosphere. The ones closer to the poles have longer paths, and their frequencies can get spread out over 3-4 seconds as they bounce around.

Thanks (and thanks to the other replies !). So a complex number has a single representation when using real and imaginary parts, but an infinity of representations if you use angle and magnitude (just add or subtract 2π radians). I guess that should have been clear from the article, I just needed to sleep on it.
Maybe someone can help me understand this. On slide 39 of the first slideshow, it says :
"For any irrational power p, there are an infinite number of solutions to z^p=c, all lying on a circle."
This means that most of the solutions have an angle larger than a full circle, right ? But if complex numbers can be represented as the sum of the real and complex parts, how can their angle be superior to 360 degrees ?

Citation needed indeed, but there's no academic research about this extravagant theory anyways, and with my foray into the subject, I just found the patterns to be decorative geometric shapes with a coincidental resemblance to Chladni patterns.

Here's my explanation : assuming random distribution, the probability of finding a star at a given distance is proportional to the area of the sphere having that radius. So it follows a square law.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think any function with an increasing rate of change (ie. second derivative > 0) will yield a distribution with the same ordering of digits as Benford's if random numbers are taken from it.
The frame and rafters seem solid (as long as you don't stress it too much), but it seems inevitable that the roots of plants will pierce the plastic layer, and rain will drain though the roof.
I know it's heavy duty plastic, but the roots of small plants can crack rock.
It's hard to tell from all these 200x200px pictures, but is the plastic the first thing on the ceiling? If that's the case, you might patch it up as it gets punctured or replace whole sections of it. I'm very curious as to how the house and vegetation will evolve on the long term, because this is pretty much my dream house.
Edit: After looking at the rest of the website, it becomes clear that they know what they're doing. I'm still curious about the details.
A lot of people were afraid that HAD would go downhill after being taken over by SupplyFrame[0]. I find all the initiatives they've taken so far were pretty good and this space prize sums it up pretty well.

As a side note, it's kind of odd that the coloring in this gui lays out the light spectrum with the low frequencies in violet and the high frequencies in red.
I've always wondered if it's possible to build a video camera that films on the microwave spectrum instead of the visible light spectrum. Would such a tool would allow you to "see" wi-fi access points ? I guess they would look like bright, pulsating sources of light, and they would be visible through walls.
I did a bit of research on the subject, and they don't seem to really exist. It's possible that the longer wavelength poses technical difficulties. The individual receptors are too big and you can't cram them together at a sufficient density. Also, the lensing and shielding needs to be completely re-thought.

I don't really agree with this critique. HTML defines the structure and content, CSS defines the style and appearance, and JS defines the behavior. The model is clear and even somewhat elegant.
Yes there is overlap, that is inevitable. Yes, you can always make it ugly and there are old vestigial features that you probably shouldn't use. These standards have a long, complicated history, but the end result is surprisingly consistent.
The different layouts in CSS (inline, block...) are powerful tools once you get used to them. They solve the problem of reconciling different layout models that are useful in different situations. And that's one hell of a problem that won't go away, even in alternate utopias. In fact most of the complaints here are just about practical solutions to inevitable problems.
This is pretty mind-bending. When you know a little about the algorithm being played, it does feel like taking a dive inside the processor. But maybe a different synthesis method, with a richer timbre would make the videos that much more interesting. Use a simple Karpluss-Strong string simulator fed into a standard chorus+reverb, pan each note according to its position in the visualisation, and we'd be taken to a freakishly higher level of immersiveness.
Maybe I'll look at the source and see if I can apply this.
The problem is, when pressing the coins it might be difficult or impossible to apply such a layer properly.
If the verification is done with a part of the electromagnetic spectrum that somewhat penetrates the coin, then you'll need a very thick, "obvious fake" layer. I am not a physicist so this is just vague speculation.

OK, I'll bite. Meditation allows you to gain an otherwise impossible level of control over somatic functions (heart rate, pressure). That's why it's often used by freedivers to learn to hold their breath for example, and, to a greater extent, it's used in static apnea to help you hold your breath for a ridiculous amount of time (see Jacques Mayol).
That doesn't mean it's only useful to static apnea champions, though. The potential uses are wide-ranging, perhaps stress control and introspection is what most people can get from it.
Reminds me of TinEye's multicolr demo [0] that searches through CC-licensed images on Flickr. Their multiple color feature was really nice (however they don't have shuttershock's keyword filtering.)
I wonder if anyone ever bought TinEye's color-search-engine-as-a-service [1]. The as-a-service model seems really awkward for something that requires so much integration, and this new shuttershock feature (developed from the ground up) seems to confirm this.

This seems to be a pretty big deal, but the article gives off the impression that mithocondrial aging is the only reason that we age. In fact there are many other aging factors that have not been linked to mithocondrial aging (and have, agruably, no relationship).
Some other factors I recall studying are
- gradual DNA damage, which is quite inevitable
- collagen degradation, which affects the eyes and all cartilaginous tissues.
