interesting, i have the exact opposite reaction. I had kinda become bored and disillusioned by coding. These tools have brought back the joy of creating things in code for me. Went through all my long forgotten side projects and managed to finish them. So happy to have all of these things done and up and running.

The goal is to end up with a model capable of discovering all the knowledge on its own. not rely on what humans produced before. Human knowledge contains errors, I want the model to point out those errors and fix them. the current state is a crutch at best to get over the current low capability of the models.

contrary to most of the comments here, I actively enjoy going to the movies. Have always, and still do. To some of the points raised, I live in a decidedly rural area. So consequently, grabbing a movie at 10pm fairly frequently leads to me having the imax all to myself. Another contributing factory might be that I tend to go during week nights, and after the opening weekend. It's true that the home experience has improved tremendously over the years (I've had a projector+retractable ceiling screen for over a decade), it doesn't come close to an imax sized screen.

for some, 'compiler construction' would count as foundational skill. But realistically nowadays it is a skill that is neither necessary, nor all that helpful in a typical day as SWE. There was a very narrow sliver of time (maybe 95-05) where this was a skill you'd be using outside of your CS class. While I do agree with your basic sentiment of 'CS doesn't teach the same things as 20 years ago', I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Those who like to dig to that level will do so on their own (just like not everybody likes to study analytical topology).

It certainly should not censor knowledge like it currently does. I can go into any library, find the chemistry section and learn how to make nitroglycerin. Yet chatgpt outright refuses to give me the same knowledge. I'm ok with it giving me a talk about safety hazards and whatnot, but it should not be allowed to decide what I am allowed to know and what i'm not allowed to.
