I started with compiling from source, moved to redhat , slackware , lfs , Gentoo. Ubuntu was great as hardware got good enough not to need custom kernels. The last few years quality has suffered. Upgrading used to be a no-brainer. The last few upgrades hosed my systems each time. Moved to Arch over such losses. Snap and flatpak are giant issues, so is docker crap. Docker is the best of the bunch, but I like to have a choice. If I'm installing a server that does one thing. I don't need docker. Kinda silly
