Comparing all the governments in the world, and highlighting some pretty obvious ones like China, Russia, Iran, North Korea.. the fact that the FISA courts even exist, at all, for a country as steadily in the cross-hairs as the USA, is amazing. I would dare to say that you're more protected from government sponsored surveillance activities, inside the US, than anywhere else. And you don't even have to be a citizen. If folks bother to read DNI Clappers release.. and actually absorb it, really read it, you might recognize how far we actually are from that amazingly revealing and horrifying reddit post.

Answer me this: Does your phone number, or the fact that your particular string of numbers is a phone number, somehow exist in the universe with some sort of innate privacy apart from you? Nope. What exactly does a phone number, absent a name, address, billing info, or other customer info, mean to anyone, even the NSA.

Has anyone been exposed to Wifi Direct? This is Wifi peer-to-peer sharing without access points. Access points as they function now would be perfect for connecting user handsets/devices but something like wifi-direct could be modded to run on access points and to serve as a cheap backhaul link protocol to interconnect APs.

The wifi spectrum is unlicensed, at least in this country (for now), so modding cellular handsets to "mesh" with each, assuming that someone were able to create a viable mesh protocol, would have handsets broadcasting in licensed spectrum without permission from the FCC. Probably something to avoid...

Check your build.. you'll have to go ERD79 to ERE27 to FRF50 and FRF72. FRF50 and 72 are Froyo but they are also NOT the final Froyo release for N1. These are test releases however they are signed by Google.. totally legit i.e. stock firmware and bootloader will gladly accept these. stay away if you're on an ATT N1 (or Rogers).

Pretty sure that ZRTP negotiates the session over the media layer (RTP.. thus Zimmerman RTP), thus avoiding the need for a switch to any other system outside the two users to set up the call.
