Only people without GamePass subscription and no desire to get it for even a month or two would buy the game on Steam

So the majority of people?

I jest, but I honestly don't know anyone who consults the GamePass offerings before making a decision on whether or not to buy a game. It's Steam or pirate.

Never claimed it was. This is (essentially) a shortcut to a dedicated steamOS session. You could just plug the machine into a display, connect a controller, and open the steam 10ft ui.

The issue in your setup is Windows^tm. (what I do) gaming machine's shell profile,

  if [[ $(tty) == "/dev/tty2" ]]; then
<insert your steamOS session invocation/args here>; sudo chvt 1; exit
  fi
then all you need is some event(s) to trigger changing to tty2 on the target machine. perhaps when a controller connects, or your tv changes input, or you press a button on your tv/tv box remote.

I understand what you meant.

  > the reason nobody offers better software is that people don’t want it enough
I wouldn't say that's THE reason, or even a contender. The average user has little agency over what the established tools are. There is no pressure to change the tools because there is no competition. You use what your employer dictates. office and/or gsuite.

Whether or not people 'want it enough' has very little to do with whether something actually occurs.

  > average user is a little bit annoyed from time to time but not enough to actually care
this part is still true.

The article does not mention switching kernels. It comments on the size of the kernel + modules; and trimming down unused modules.

Of all the things to get nixpilled over, this isn't one.

  > rsync my entire home directory out to all the laptops
Interesting approach. Whether it could be considered 'better' or not depends on what your 'handful of shell scripts' do.

I can't speak to Halo Infinite, but for SoT that's what worked for me. Another commenter is saying they were able to auth with a passkey (for infinite), which I never tried (for SoT), but id imagine it would work.

Heroic is a launcher aggregate/wrapper I think? for 'Epic, GOG and Amazon Prime Games' It's either Steam, native/standalone or arr for me. for non-steam stuff I use umu.

* I should add that I am launching a steam purchased copy of SoT, not the one from Xbox store/gamepass or what have you, so the process is likely different, but maybe not cus you are likely going to see the same auth popup served via wine/proton.

I was the same way (I suppose I still am since I never deleted the partition), scoop + tailored pwsh profile + 'debloat' tweaks etc. I never really understood any of the popular complaints about Windows/W11 since I always reign my install in.

There is no argument, just vague gesturing toward the grass. I recognized myself in your post.

Ghostty is awesome, ill echo the sentiment regarding lack of IPC/scripting API being my current hold back. Sticking with kitty til then. I still keep the ghostty binary on hand so I can +boo :^)

for libghostty consumers, favorite i've tried so far is neurosnap/zmx.
