Democratically elected politicians versus central party that allows no dissent and has complete control over information and actions of its citizens to the point of genocidal assimilation.

You're saying the Chinese government is so powerful and competent that they have complete control over information and actions of over one BILLION people? Wild claims like this one should be substantiated.

Although your name is wildly sinophobic and racist so I doubt there is any evidence you can pull up.

I believe what is being said is that in non-Western/fully isolated nuclear families you have a lot of people and experiences you can rely on. So having a child at a younger age like your mid-20s is not that big of a deal.

FWIW nowhere I've interviewed at has been that silly w/ questions. Generally they're very personable.

Except FAANG/fintech companies. So I guess you just have to put up with it if you wish to be maximizing income.

You are assuming that FAANG companies are offering "fair" compensation for the output of their engineers. How would anyone ever make a profit doing that?

Employees are very rarely the exploiters and almost always the exploited.

Fortunately I've done more than five minutes of research on this topic which is why I can see through the propaganda. Your organ claims have been debunked multiple times before (here is one from the WaPo that you will like: https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/asia_pacific/in-the-fac...) but here are two articles (https://thegrayzone.com/2019/12/21/china-detaining-millions-... https://thegrayzone.com/2019/09/30/reports-china-organ-harve...) debunking your others (and come from the West with links to all salient points they make!):

Relevant quotes from the WaPo:

And lawyers who have defended Falun Gong practitioners also reject allegations that those prisoners’ organs are being harvested.

“I have never heard of organs being taken from live prisoners,” said Liang Xiaojun, who said he had defended 300 to 400 Falun Gong practitioners in civil cases and knew of only three or four deaths in prison.

Jose Nuñez, head of the transplantation program at the World Health Organization, which collects information on transplants worldwide, says that in 2015 the number of foreigners going to China for transplants was “really very low,” compared with the traffic to India, Pakistan or the United States, or in comparison with transplant-visitor numbers in China’s past.

Chapman and Millis say it is “not plausible” that China could be doing many times more transplants than, for instance, the United States, where about 24,000 transplants take place every year, without that information leaking out as it did when China used condemned prisoners’ organs.

I'd highly suggest taking a more critical approach to your media consumption over believing Western propaganda. The West would have you believe the Chinese are infants and cannot see the corruption of their own government. If Americans can see it in their own why can't other people?

The West has 100% done more "evil" if we're going by "oppression olympics". One can simply look at the violence exported by the respective groups. Also keep in mind how often America lies and sends agents to destabilize China (I'm sure vice-versa is also true yet Americans choose to blame Russians instead? Not sure why.). Now, I do not believe that is a fruitful or meaningful argument to have but your argument seems to come from a place of American exceptionalism over weighing both sides.

I'd recommend reading: https://liberationschool.org/tiananmen-the-massacre-that-was... as well as the WikiLeaks documents and draw your own conclusions. CBS, NYT, and many other American sources all also do not report this "massacre" yet I recall it being in my textbooks and it being "common knowledge".

It's become impossible for me to trust the US on anything domestic much less China. I'd hoped for much better from HN but it seems the critical lens is not being applied as much as a xenophobic one. :(

Citations very much needed for the absurd _millions_ of people in concentration camps being butchered alive for organs? I've done a lot of research into this topic and sans one far-right kook who extrapolated millions out of interviewing eight people, nobody suggests anything more than thousands of people in "re-education camps". Nothing about organ harvesting in said camps.

I'd urge you to investigate more yourself--and if you come up with a different answer please do update me.

Do we know what the Chinese government is doing to ethnic minorities? I've seen enough evidence from both sides to know that it's despicable but that it is also not a genocide.

That is where the accusation of "whataboutism" comes into play, because given my limited time and influence I'd rather focus on issues of similar or greater magnitude (indigenous rights, climate change, the prison system, healthcare, white supremacist structures in our countries, imperialist tendencies that result in freedom bombings) over posturing about re-education and vocational camps in China that have humans rights abuse. I would 100% prefer the latter to not exist but it really feels like a distraction tactic and something we in the West have no power over.

Ultimately there is enough evidence to make a decision already--the case of police brutality is nothing as invisible or insidious as something like the sexual assault or harassment revealed by the #MeToo movement. I am not sure this repository accomplishes anything, especially as reports do not seem to be well vetted, but it would be nice if cleaned up to have a list of examples.

Your comment does not directly contradict anything GP says yet your tone makes it seems like it does. If you are not sure what the percentages are your argument adds nothing to the conversation and in facts misleads readers into thinking that a significant amount of police can be considered heroes.

Of course given a large enough sample size process wins out! People's capabilities and knowledge differ. The issue is in determining _what_ good process _is_ given the vast environment that is a globalized economy.

That is why socioeconomic status is so important with respect to success. There's a difference when you can play a thousand hands vs. ten.

Perhaps, but I think a lot of people tend to say that, then conclude that they should just wait around for luck (not saying you're doing this, though).

I'm curious as to why you think that? It could be cultural differences but I have never seen that behaviour except from those that are already depressed and have given up.

IMO the simplest analogy for success is poker. You make the best decisions you can given the information you have. You adjust as new information is revealed. Ultimately, success or failure is less relevant than the process.

Demonstrably false considering massive wealth inequality and poverty. It's incredibly harmful and uneducated to hold such a callous opinion. It also goes against the plentiful studies showing that socieconomic status (SES) is more significant predictor of success than almost any other attribute.

Simple scenarios:

- immigrants/refugees moving to a different country

- getting visas in what is largely a lottery system

- injury luck with respect to athleticism

- access to equipment and instruments with respect to musical talent

- slavery and generational poverty

The idea that _capability_ is anywhere close to as important as luck fails so many simple tests (let alone empirical studies) that your statement offends me a little bit.

There is also overwhelming pressure on minorities to not only succeed and be perfect but to gain positions of power to make it easier for those that follow. It's incredibly difficult to do that as an IC (for either gender).

You are essentially arguing for class-based solidarity against the capitalist imperative for oppression and "corruption" in the name of profits. I'm not sure if these are original thoughts or inspired by reading leftist works but I agree with you.

But as words are important it's important to not dismiss intentional, systemic racism that we know definitely exists.

From my understanding the primary use of concurrency in Erlang/Elixir is for isolation and operational consistency. Do you believe that not to be the case?
