You mentioned that you can optimize which investments get solds. Assuming my risk tolerance is fine with stock index funds, what happens if I want to withdraw, say 1/2 of my portfolio but the S/P 500 is down 20% (aka March 2020 withdrawal).

The issue with claiming that the pandemic caused these extra deaths is that we don't know if it did.this is because the reactions to covid (lockdown) could have just as easily impacted people dying.
It's not so simple so as to attribute all excess mortality to covid.

They addressed this in the paper by making the change small (5 lines). Obvsiously time is still wasted, but the team felt that the research warranted it. This is up to debate and should not be used solely as a reason to crucify them.
Its not someone on the same team. Its someone working underneath one of the research members- a grad student who likely had no knowledge of what his supervisor did.

These are two different projects. The one published at IEEE S&P 2021 has completely finished in November 2020. My student Aditya is working on a new project that is to find bugs introduced by bad patches. Please do not link these two projects together. I am sorry that his new patches are not correct either. He did not intentionally make the mistake.

Basically (as I understand it, feel free to correct me) this is what happened:
Researcher emailed maintained with flawed code, maintainer LGTMed it, researcher told maintainer that the code is buggy and not to merge it. The researchers confirmed that the code was not merged or commited anywhere. Paper gets published. Nothing of note happens.
Now, one of the researchers grad students has submitted stuff to linux oh his own volition- he does not appear to be associated with the previous research. These commits are "obviously bad" according to linux maintainers and claim that the grad student is just continuing the "merge bad shit" research. These commits do not appear to be intentionally flawed but rather newbie mistakes (so claims the student)- which is why he feels the linux community is unwelcoming to newcomers.
Now how on earth did that warp to whatever everyone here is smoking?
If you read your own links you'll note that literally nobody can directly attribute any negative consequences in humans from radiation.
It's all conjecture. The only direct cause of harm is the 1600 that died in the evacuation.
If you go to ontario public health website and read their summaries on current covid papers, you'll note that the vast majority of papers come to the conclusion that schools have almost no impact on the spread of covid.
But no, keep applying youre second grade logic: spreads through air-> indoor places unsafe-> CLOSE EVERYTHING.

Children are almost immune from the virus. Everyone below 40 is also extremely extremely unlikely to die from the virus, just to a lesser extent.
I worked at Huawei as intern 2 years ago. Honestly, they seemed like just any other tech company- chill, interesting work with nice people. They even had a month where they doubled everyone's salaries randomly- as a thank you for working hard.
At the same time I did see the "shadow government" but would like to clarify that it seemed to me to progress beyond a team leader you had to be fluent in mandarin, not necessariy be Chinese. Which makes sense considering that yes, upper managements English is usually poor.

There are issues with the paper- its 15 years out dated and influenza != covid, but the paper is still useful. Also interestingly enough, the paper also mentions the non-effectiveness of masks (Non N95 ones at least), which was likely why masks were not heavily pushed at the start of the pandemic.
Overall from what I have read, lockdown as we implemented is a solely 2020 idea. We are essentially running the grandest science experiment ever, with both our lives and our happiness.

Once when I was setting up my mom's iPhone I couldn't get the app store working because whenever I tried to download something the app store went white.
Trial and error told me that some apple id page was supposed to come up, but wasn't. Just a blank screen.
Tried a couple hours later, it was fine. Meaning their server went down and they didn't even bother to code up an error page. Super lazy.

Yeah but when you use those, facebook and google tell you the underlying email address. Its not hard to just make users sign up again, whereas with Apple you have no idea who you are talking too.
Clearly, Apple has far far more control over the developer with sign in with Apple vs Log in with Facebook/Google.
A for loop, is a better construct than a map or more complicated language features because of the fact that its stupidly easy to understand.
Im not saying maps and other functional paradigms are hard to understand, just that is more complicated than a for loop and confuses people far more.
This simplicity of a for loop is worth far far more than the saving of 2-3 lines of code and some abstract idea of elegance.
