I did this once in an interview, but it was a high level "how would you tackle this problem" question. We already had a solution implemented though, so whatever the candidate said wouldn't have mattered much. I think real world problems are far better than the algorithm implementation problems that plague interviewing.

I've looked at them before, but I don't have $10k to tie up on what is just me playing around.

Are there any services out there that allow automated trading, but as a game? There are many services that let you do manual trades as a game, but I've never seen automated ones.

It'd be interesting to hear the hire's perspective on people who come out of these schools.

Where I work we get a lot of these applicants but their applications are so generic and skill sets so shallow that we've never seriously considered hiring one -- and about half our team is completely self taught, so I don't think we are bias against non-degree holders.
