The difference to me is the expectation of protection from obvious hazards in public and commercial spaces.

Think of the piano keys (chromatic scale) as the alphabet, and theory as the language that makes words from it.

Tbh a little theory goes a long way. It’s all related and your understanding will build over time. You’ll start to see patterns.

Just start off learning how to play a simple song. Then, try to think about what key is this song in? What chords make up that key? What intervals am I playing? How would I transpose this song into a different key? Etc.

You can teach yourself, but a teacher or good course will accelerate the process.

This is an impressive piece of work. However my use case for bash is simple, concise and portable scripts.

Getting used to the normal phases (and sounds) of flight was the biggest thing for me. For instance, once I realized it was normal to bank for a turn shortly after take off (and that the sensation was not us falling out of the sky) I stopped freaking out internally about it.

Strongly agree with all of these, especially no caffeine before or during a flight.

In addition a couple strong cocktails right before the flight goes a long way to help me relax during take off. That's when I tend to be the most anxious.

Also getting a couple big bottles of water at the airport and bringing them on the plane helps me stay hydrated/comfortable and forces me to stand up and stretch in order to get to the restroom a few times during the flight.

I've stopped shopping at amazon, but the prime subscription I expected to expire annoyingly auto-renewed itself. There seems to be an (intentional?) lack of prime account management features. The only user facing options seem to be "cancel now" or "email me right before auto-renewal". I don't see a way to simply turn off automatic renewal.

On the other hand I think prime was a useful influence on other e-commence sites. Shipping times have become dramatically shorter in recent years.

So, thank you Amazon for forcing your competition to ship faster while allowing your own site to become overrun with fake reviews and crappy knock-off products!

It makes perfect sense for Apple to optimize their devices for stability and max run time. These are arguably the most important features of any device.

Any other behavior, including offering the user power options (because many users won't understand them) would introduce a poorer user experience (abrupt hard shutdowns, constant need to charge) and likely sway some portion of non-tech users to purchase a different brand when they refresh.

At the end of the day the battery is replaceable and if you chose to buy an iPhone you're already aware that they it is a "premium" device.

When appropriate I'll write a _concise_ but friendly intro and bottom quote a few key parts of the job description with questions, ideas, or an anecdote.

Try thinking about what could peak the curiosity of the reader and interest them in talking to you on the phone.

Even as a technical person I've found it much easier to cut the cord with a few different devices. I've yet to find a single device that does it all well.

Kodi is great at file playback but the bring-your-own-hardware approach is a great way to spend movie night trying to fix a broken computer (a separate mysql backend is needed for multi kodi device sync... seriously?) I replaced my kodi boxes with rokus and plex and haven't looked back.

Roku has a nice app selection and the remote makes a huge difference in usability for non tech folks. Then again roku lacks a good built-in "airplay" feature so I have an apple tv to do that.

I'd recommend to your friend two devices. A Roku, and a device that they can "cast" from the mobile platform they use.

I did a double take after seeing the device. That droopy built in cord seems like a really poor design choice. Aside from it being ugly there's potential for the cord to fail considering the device hangs from it and it can't be replaced. They even seem to be hiding it behind the remote in the amazon stock photos.

I'd love to see an application that could capture audio from an instrument and act as a real-time theory aid/teacher. For example:

  * the note you are playing is this
  * the notes you've just played in sequence belong to these scales. here are possibilities for next notes
  * try these chords
  * the chord you've just played is comprised of these notes
  * the next chord in the scale could be this
  * popular songs with these chords or in this scale are

Soundcloud has it's issues, and personally I find the mobile interface annoying, but what are the alternatives for music creators (and discovery)? Asking out of curiosity. Would love to find a good alternative.

I put together a modest priced system using quality but not quite "vintage" parts from the 80s (NAD amp, Klipsch heritage, Pioneer tt). It punches well above it's weight and I'd be hard pressed to build a comparable system today without spending 5x the money.

Things really aren't made the way they used to be (for better or worse) and I think that nostalgia is definitely part of vinyl's appeal.
