I use Silicon Dusts HD home run and it works great. Live TV from home while I'm travelling is one of my primary use cases. I subscribe to a TV listing service. The DVR function is good too. My biggest issue was that I had to get a graphics card that could transcode on the fly then TV worked perfectly.

Through this I learned CISAs website runs on Drupal and that was much cooler to me than I thought it would be.

Why not educate the people in need about the tons of other free email services that exist? Outlook, tutanota, protonmail, yahoo, gmx, fastmail, zoho theres plenty more but you get the idea.

The only way to win is to not play the game.

I think it'd be wonderful if any project with a social presence would consider mastodon. Even when it's just a bot that parrots what the twitter account says it is nice to not have to use twitter.

I used to be really grumpy about SELinux until I learned about audit2why and audit2how. With those two utilities SELinux is just as easy if not easier to configure than any systemd process.

Every job is hard when you are using the wrong tools. Don't change your oil with pliers, and don't setenforce 0.

I use GNU/Linux and OS X soon to be rebranded MacOS. I started off using RedHat 3 dot something ages and ages ago then moved on to FreeBSD for about 6 or 7 years before I did lots of distro hopping in my 20s. I remember the fun and annoyance at having to recompile your kernel for sound driver support, or to add or remove a feature.

So the why? I think that it gives me the blend of power and convenience that I am personally looking for. In my early days the open source, free compilers were a godsend as I had to get a ride out of town to get to a book store that sold a book or manual with a distribution CD. As the internet access got better I started using the GUI and noticed that my use case was slowly evolving. Now-a-days I find that I am on whatever is handy Chromebook, iPad, MacBook, Desktop PC running Fedora.

Many computer users merely want something that works, and you can't blame them for that either.

This seems like it could be a fun question.
