UWP is the future of Windows APIs, Win32 is mostly frozen since WIndows XP.
Frozen is usually a good thing.
Microsoft is just making UWP similar to what Google is making with AndroidX, detaching the technology from the OS version.

Is not WinUI the extraction of the UI part of the UWP stack? Yes namespaces break, but concepts and controls are from the same linage. UWP is more than the UI. It has also sandboxing and deployment.
The UWP has everything except a GUI.
So essentially, it is not a UI.

Chrome can always be replaced just like Internet Explorer was. Is not even the default on most platforms.
Firefox is more or less Chrome. Edge same. Vivaldi is also Chrome.
Safari on the other hand... You're not even allowed to replace it with an open source browser.

Fun fact: printing web pages today is a PITA. The only browser which some years ago made a decent job was Opera. Firefox, Chrome and IE are total disasters.

Occupations generally have a male and a female variant and as far as I know you are required to address both in formal speech (so I wouldn't call this an "experiment" anymore).
In many languages there are occupations which are specifficaly related to specific genres.
The only area where I'd say this isn't implemented yet is informal speech. Few people watch their day-to-day language for gender neutrality.

This article is about cars driving in simulation, not on the real streets. But I do wonder how they can introduce truly "unpredictable" events in the simulations.
Like normal SW: Requirement: navigate this road with those signs. Test: Put the same signs as in requirement. Check that car navigates correctly.
I don't know anything about self driving cars, but it seems like solving self driving cars isn't far off having general artificial intelligence. How well does a car react when there is a construction flagger telling it to turn around, or when there is no signs and the traffic lights go down due to a power failure?
It either continues or stops. When the traffic lights go off it uses the computed right of way.
Also, my recent experience trying to order a chipotle burrito from an AI assistant over the phone did not leave me too dazzled with the state of the AI industry.
It's the same for self driving cars. It is like every SW designed after a set of requirements: you feed it with something not specified in requirements and whatch it crash or spitting an error message.

Teams has its issues, but compared to skype its amazing in my opinion. Granted, skype is a pretty low bar to compare with, but still.

About corporate: Skype can do a 250 people meeting, Teams can do only 100.
It is like in the old M$ joke: How wonderful it's gonna be when they will get it.
At my last company, Teams was introduced as a tool besides skype - and everyone was encouraged to move meetings etc. whenever possible over to Teams. It worked out pretty well, after a few months skype meetings became the exception, almost everything, especially if only techies were included, was happening on Teams.
In my company people preffer Skype.
I recommend to give it a serious try, some of it features do suck (notification settings etc. are absolutely horrendous and seem to not properly work half the time) but overall it improved the ways people communicated a lot compared to skype. At least that was my experience :)

Open-source sucks at UX. I think because there's no community behind open-source UX like there is in the inner workings of systems, where people just want to get shit done.. You have to pay UX developers and designers to do their job, because it's generally not a job you'd do for free or in order to accomplish "something".
Closed source also sucks big at UX (see Office 365 for details). But M$ offers "integration" a thing which OSS cannot offer. Also , having enough lobby (corruption) or market share , the UX does not matter.

sometimes building something new seems obvious. i have to push hard to get people to back up that obviousness with evidence. (provide me with evidence that these existing solutions are not suitable before we build a new one from scratch.
The main issue here is that the perceived cost of starting from scratch is very low especially when from his ebony tower the programmer ignores all the issues the previous programmer had to confront.

another factor is the seemingly common dislike of working with other peoples code. especially when it's known that modifications will need to be made. do we take this system with a lot of legacy code where we have to modify 20% or is it easier to start over and build what we need?
If builders made buildings the way programmers make SW ... Why do SW cannot improve the code ? Why do they have to "invent" the wheel every day and in the end they obtain the same thing or even worse ?
I'll give examples: 1. KDE and GNOME. With every release the interface is different. Old programs do not work anymore - they have to be ported to new KDE 4 or 5 or 6 or whatever. They were at the beginning way ahead of windows (r) and Mac now they just copy. Same with GNOME.
2. Win 10 looks the same like Win 1.0. Functionality is the same. Will Win 31 look the same like 3.1 ?

It is the same on chrome or firefox. Empty window only with url bar. You need to type in the url bar to write something. Writing software is hard. Using your brain while writing software is even harder.

I use a laptop with an external monitor. When the monitor is not connected, Adobe Reader windows have the title bar out of the screen. The only way to maximize: Alt + space + x.
