Having the database on a seperate server doesn't imply it's safe, if the web application has access to the database.

Yep, good point - and quite likely if your website is on it's own (non-shared) IP address. One way to work around this would be to create a .htaccess file to redirect any requests not matching your domain name to your own :)
I have a couple of laptops with I use heavily for dev work. Dell and Acer, and both have really impressed me.
The dell also has a docking station which connects 2x widescreen monitors on my desk, which i find highly useful as trying to code on 1x small laptop screen can be restrictive at times.
what language are you proposing they should use for this project we know nothing about yet?

^ have tried exactly that on both mobile and desktop versions, and i get everything else but the invites button (some others are reporting the same thing also). i'll keep checking regularly and send invites to you guys if/when i get invites :)

I've installed on android, and it hasn't given me invites to hand out?! I've also checked on desktop version (win7/chrome) and the same again.
After reading some comments on other pages, it seems im not alone either. Regardless, when it finally does allow me to send invites, I'll send to others in this thread :)
