Working as a web developer in the education sector, this gives me a great deal cautious hope for the future. About 90% of our visitors use IE because they are students in the classroom.

I had precisely the same discussion yesterday with a new client. She didn't understand how our web application did not have a larger list of system requirements. She started repeating the situation in a louder, slower manner to help me understand.

I couldn't imagine a better competition. I am utterly elated, as a junior developer, to have Stack Overflow as a resource as well as to see it knocking at Expert Exchanges' door.

Even with added traffic, the conversion rate (visitors/buyers) given the tribute and no products on the front page has to be extremely low. Low enough that I tend to believe they are losing money for the sake of this.

Don't doubt it, they are losing a significant portion of revenue-generating space on a commercial website in order to pay tribute to a fallen friend.

Consumerist propaganda? I can't imagine many people taking it that seriously. I do, in fact, buy new underclothes every 2-3 months only because I prefer the unworn feel. I'm sure many would agree. Looks like a startup with a not-so-novel idea, but a nice ordering interface and hopefully nice ordering process that will succeed.

Same here. I use Firefox for development with Firebug at work, but I use Chrome at home.

No, I don't believe most women see a correlation between brains and money. I believe they see a correlation of displays of wealth and money. Duh.

Another big guy reporting in. I tried a few different dress shirts and professional pants before I found one fit/type of each that I stuck with religiously. I used to have anxiety about clothes shopping, specifically for professional dress. Almost every article of clothing didn't fit well because of my belly. After finding 1 type of each (as mentioned in an earlier reply), I've never been happier with my wardrobe.

Totally agreed. I dress semi-professional for work, and soon in decided that my entire work wardrobe would consist of Express 1MX shirts (non-fitted, non-bright colors) and black, standard fit, flat front Dockers.

How did this make it to the front page?

I started with PHP/MySQL a few years ago and pronounced it My-S-Q-L. Having only read on web and in book the word, it was only after I began my current position as an ASP.NET/MSSQL developer did I begin hearing it pronounced Sequel. When I started the position, I was actually told that pronouncing it M-S-S-Q-L would result in the entire IT department pegging me as a novice.

I still use S-Q-L.

I couldn't read the non-English portion of the post, but I took it only for the face value; being clever. Not necessarily better.

I thought the only reason given for rejecting Google Voice was that it would cause confusion with Apple's dialer? If they did announce Google Voice along with VoIP, there would be some backtracking, I'd imagine.
