I think people here who look at Finland and Europe in general and see these social programs to help you get ahead are rather blinded by the reality that they only exist for Europeans. As a US citizen who lived in Europe for 5 years, I can assure you that it's a 100% closed game. If you are not from the EU, you can only work for a European. It makes no difference if you have a great idea, or even your own funding, you won't get the legal permission to found a business in Europe unless you basically got a European to found it for you and then you can be their employee. This is basically why the tech scene in Europe is more smoke than heat, it only allows the local talent to be successful, which we all know leads to subpar results. It is also why you really don't see any actual innovation come out of Europe.

I think the abysmal record of the plane and the huge amount of money spent on it are more likely why it seems that way. It's really hard to say nice things about people who actually shine turds for a living.

Not sure why you are downvoted, what you say is literally the thinking behind current criminal justice in the US. The idea is that the person is completely evil and the only thing is to stop them from following their nature is long term incapacitation. I think this fundamental fact about how the system is structured and how the people in it think is really lost on people pushing reform. Getting literally millions of state and federal employees to change their beliefs on this is something that will happen over generations, not with the passing of a few laws. This philosophy is cooked in for some decades to come, unfortunately.
Honest question here, who actually thinks the political structures in place today can provide the change needed in the timeframe we have? I'm honestly putting those odds at < 1%. I mean, it looks like the only actual option is geohacking, but that's not talked about much yet. The distraction is this obsession with trying to make a broken system solve a problem it can't solve.
