Who are you people glazing this functionality? The term doom scrolling came about, in large part, because of infinite scrolling. I have never, in nearly two decades of smart phones being everywhere, met someone who liked infinite scrolling enough to say so. People _use_ these things, sure, but that's because they're addictive and ubiquitous and not because they materially improve someone's life.

This is a false equivalence. I don't use a product _because_ it's got an endless scroll. I use a product and then they add that "feature" without giving me an option. I would, and have, turned it off when possible. But it's not currently possible to do so on apps like Reddit.

In no way is this like yogurt. If I don't like that one yogurt has trace amounts of heroin in it, I can buy a different yogurt. If I don't like that reddit has an infinite scroll, I have to miss out on conversations in communities I like. There simply aren't similar communities I've ever been able to find for certain topics. And anything similar also has an infinite scroll (Facebook, twitter, etc.).

If, in your example, all yogurts had trace amounts of heroin in them, I would agree with the comparison.

This should go without saying, but the person you're replying to obviously wants you to prove instances of scientists receiving grant money because they know someone or are part of a group. They are not asking you to prove the support of the people.

Turn off your watch history. It stops all shorts except from your subscriptions.

If they remove this, I will surely be done with YouTube. I was so desperate to disable shorts and ready to be done with the app, but then I learned that disabling watch history pretty much perfectly allows me to use the app how I want to.

I'm curious why it seems so many on this site still have Facebook accounts. I'd deleted mine before and it didn't stick, but I deleted it again earlier this year and haven't one single time considered creating another. I see no reason I would need a Facebook account again. I don't care to follow the activity of acquaintances.

Unless you're talking about Instagram? Even then IG has always struck me as the cooler Facebook, but now it's just a doom scrolling machine from what I can tell.

I presume I'm in the minority. But I don't really understand it. I see no need for these services anymore; they seem mostly like Trojan horses to inject advertisements into our lives.

The person you responded to didn't say anything about harm to themselves. They said there's nothing stopping them from donating even though they're aware of the PFAS contamination in their area.

And from what I understand, PFA contamination has no bearing on whether or not you can donate.

I'm curious if there's been any evidence Novamin actually repairs enamel or "repairs" in some other way.

IIRC, it's not allowed in the states because it's not economical to prove that it actually repairs teeth, but I think my understanding is based on some internet comments and nothing else. The studies I've seen haven't proven to effectively repair enamel, I think, but I'm also not scientifically literate enough to understand the p values they report.

I used to buy repair and protect from Canada back in 2017 but haven't used it since then. I periodically check if there is any solid evidence but I haven't seen much or I'm too stupid to understand it.

B&W mode is great until you're trying look at photos or watch videos. I wish there was a setting in the operating system to remove color from UI elements and not videos or images. Or turn B&W on/off for certain apps, like photos and youtube.

And I guess not having color for videos is maybe the point, but I can't manage to use it at all if I can't watch videos with color.

YouTube is like 10% of Alphabets profits and there are thousands of creators relying on it for a living. Anecdotal but the creators I follow all talk about YouTube giving them a much better monetization strategy than any other platform. So I don't think this will be any time soon

But I agree it seems like they use this API as a free launch pad for ideas, which seems morally or ethically questionable. Sorry to hear they might have ripped your idea.

Except for the limited commercial uses for Non-Streaming SDAs (set out below) commercial uses are not permitted for SDAs.

Their guidelines are super strict about using any music or artwork in specific ways. For instance, I'm pretty certain you need to display a Spotify logo any time you play music from Spotify, which I don't see on the player. And the player has rounded corners on the artwork.

I'm not a lawyer so I'm sorry if I'm reading these incorrectly. I tried making an app using the Spotify API at one point and had it running but it got shot down a couple times for not displaying the Spotify icon. Good on you if your app is all set. I was always worried I was going to face the Spotify legal team with mine and gave up on it.

I only mention these because I do love the radio! Great mix of genres so far!

Halo, for me, was about forge and messing around in fun game modes people came up with. Releasing Halo without forge and with bare bones custom game tools is like selling a car without seats.

Coming from a smaller town (<30,000) I was pretty much taught this. I couldn't go a month without someone wishing I would move away and leave the town behind. I live in a bigger city now and I'm glad but it took effort not to feel ashamed of living in my home town for so long.

Most people in America are born and live in metro areas and I wonder if the same kind of mentality is taught to those people?

MKBHD recently shared the same sentiment in a video. He feels, anecdotally, that 5G is worse than LTE. I feel the same way and recently switched my preferred network to LTE.

You might find a better experience doing the same. I've found 5G to be truly awful and I live in one of the biggest cities in America where you would expect better infrastructure.

I haven't used it for nearly a year now, but in my last role we used ES for user-facing search. We had to turn to documentation, forums and support for a lot of problems we faced and I got the impression ES was mostly being used for logs while user-facing search was the less common use case. Support didn't have answers for us on a number of occasions and online documentation was equally sparse.

Kibana was killer, though.

I think 1x is baseline. If you can buy two for the original price, it's 2x cheaper. 10 for the same price? 10x cheaper.

Why would someone elected to office, who knows they can't run again, have any concern about the will of the people? At best you would have the same outcome that you get from politicians at the end of their terms, and it's not like these politicians are solving all of society's ailments.

If they can still get lobbying money by operating on the will of corporations, they could spend their whole term making money for themselves with no concern about re-election.

This solution just seems like hoping and praying the politicians we elect have higher regard for their legacy than their wallet.

I want this as well. I loved Runescape as a kid and OSRS is fun, but it really doesn't feel like I'm the target audience anymore.

One thing I've loved is their concept of Leagues. I would love a game like OSRS that has a persistent mode and a sort of seasonal Leagues type mode.

Also a game with improved running mechanics. Running feels awful compared to other games you can play these days.

And improved PvP; the wilderness is a cool concept, but I think it would work better to have a duplicate world "underneath" the regular world that's the exact same but with faster xp and rewards along with the risk of player killers.

Also better afk-ability, since the game is meant to be played over extended periods of time.

Supported macro-ability and better inventory management?

These things will never end up in OSRS because they'll ruin the way the game has been played, but I really want a game that checks these boxes.
