I think the biggest issue I have with this data is that 79 percent of top advertisers don't have a mobile- optimized website, http://www.standard.net/stories/2012/01/20/businesses-need-m.... I certainly rarely ever make a purchase on my iphone. I simply look for deals and then purchase them on a PC. It seems that either people are not really making as many purchases as the data suggests or that all of the big corporations got it wrong.

It is very difficult to not give every single minute to a startup. There is always so much to do. My first question is, if these guys were able to accomplish this with short days, would they have gone further and achieved even better results if they worked just a little bit harder. How do you know when you are giving too much, and is there really an amount of hours of work per day where you go from progress to regress? Does somebody say hey I can see your project and at this stage you can add a little bit at a time?

My second question is would this company have received so much more than the 500k had they had investors, and ultimately be better off?

I would appreciate any feedback or suggestions. My startup is http://1800businesscards.com and it is all self funded. Do I continue to put exhaustive hours in or do I step back and let it mature slowly. Should I seek venture capital or do I move slowly? There is just no resource or place for advice on these issues in my very small world. Thanks all.

Privacy can exist on the web if people got together and requested changes politically. That is the beauty in democracy. As an example, there is no reason for Google to be able to read our emails, so why do we permit it. There should be a private and public option, and we should control the switch.

I think "Transformational Entrepreneurship" is a great idea to consider in the development stages of a project but it does not work without many of the companies that are built without societal ethos. For instance, Apple's Iphone supports great "transformational" apps that can better the way we do things, but the smartphone itself could be seen as a meaningless device that does not help society. Is it safe to say that you can't have transformational entrepreneurship without meaningless ventures?

Sorry for the delay, I am a newbie and just noticed the response. The answer to both parts of your question is that search engines factor in TLD's in ranking, for instance .com's are often the most relevant when it comes to search, especially EMD's with an exact match, especially with Google. And day by day the search algorithms are changing, and search rankings lately are all over the place with algorithm updates. Many SEO leaders will support the argument that spammers dominate and the algorithms are struggling to get it right. Something I agree with. Now if you add another element to search algorithms it seems very likely that search ranking will only become more confused as data is added.

I thought I would add some support for the argument of choosing the tech sector as a career. If you look at the statistics it seems that 5 out of the top 10 jobs of 2012 according to this survey is in the tech sector with software development being number 2. I believe this question is relative to an individual's current position in life. Let's face it, if you have been living in a really challenged position always hiding from creditors and living meagerly for some time the pressure to just get "Family Money" is at the forefront of every venture. There is nothing wrong with that. I am working 7 days a week on my startup and I have yet to get the family money. I want to make a difference in the world with all my heart and soul, and I would really love to get the family money out of the way so I can focus on making that difference. It is ok to want a little bit of comfort, that will give you the physical presence you need to make a difference.

GET AWAY FRO0M THESE MACHINES JUST A LITTLE BIT MORE! I think technology has created this vacuum where everything around you no longer exists and you find yourself in a place of isolation. To all those like myself jumping from machines at home, to iphones on the train, to machines at work, to iphones on the way home, to machines while you eat dinner, to iphones as you lay in the bed, and finally you wake up and the first thing you do is reach for your iphone. Let's make a serious effort to spend more quality time away from the machines before it is too late!

I looked at the word technical and instantly knew that it was suggesting the question if I write code. I am not a coder, I am familiar with it, but I am closer to the guy trying to build a company by getting a group of coders together. The point is that nobody should be offended, in fact it is even ok to believe your technical if other techs believe you are not. Any startup needs all the cogs in the wheel to run, from the simpletons to the most advanced, and we all should embrace the role we find ourselves in and change it if we believe we were meant for something else.

I witnessed university faculty squabbling, debating, supporting arguments, and a lot of years of experience and input go into the reading list for students, and this was an Ivy League school. Although this was obviously a different level, I would suppose considering the absorption rate of children that a reading list should be taken very seriously and I would make sure those who put it together were qualified to do so.

I really feel this is a problem we all face, how much can we give before it starts to hurt us personally. This world is not forgiving, even for the good guys. Time is precious, so do not waste it. If giving makes you feel like your life has meaning then by all means give, but don't sacrifice the quality of your personal life or that of your family.

Even if we believe that our data is anonymous in one way or another the reality is that there are teams everyday working on de-anonymizing data. If you look at dozens of posted articles online referencing the restructuring of anonymous data you will realize that what appears to be anonymous on the surface might not be.

I think that adding new TLD's is inevitable as the internet continues to grow. I really believe the crux of the issue here is actually a two part external one, not the inevitable adding of TLD's. First, there is the problem of how the law on TLD's which is ambiguous at best, will deal with cybersquatting and other legal issues related to TLD's. Additionally, the larger and second part of my argument is how the search engines will add this to their already confused algorithms.
