That's beautiful. Thanks for sharing. It reminds of a similar experience I had.

A few years back one of the systems I ended up inheriting stopped working on January 1st. As most people, I had taken the day off, but my manager called me to fix the issue in prod.

After much researching, I found out the assembly causing the issue. Similarly, the original dev had left and the source code was lost. So I used ildasm and found out the year was hardcoded. I patched the binary and went home.

I wish they didn’t do that. Or preferably, I wish they had native “containers” for work and personal repos.

Explore is one of my favorite features and now it’s crowded with work related suggestions. It makes it harder to separate the personal/professional persona and interests. This problem also manifests in notifications. I want a clear separation so I can focus on my personal life after work.

Almost my same story. I still remember trying to learn as much as possible from the magazines, downloading a full distro with my connection was unthinkable back then. It was back when I lived in Mexico. I find it very interesting how technology enabled people growing in different backgrounds to share the same experience.

I have the same issue. In general, coworkers are my main distraction, and it could be for many reasons:

- I also have a coworker that "Demands I Look At His Code Now". And, in general, he demands attention.

- Sometimes it is not time, but emotional. I don't know why but a lot of people come to me to discuss personal issues, or issues at work. I want to help or at least listen, but it is difficult to get anything done if each one of them steals 20 min or more. I feel horrible when I have to terminate the conversation abruptly because I have stuff to do.

- A few of my coworkers like just to be in my office when I am coding or fixing an issue. I think this would be extremely boring for me, but some people like to see how I solve problems. I feel flattered and enjoy the company, but it can get stressful when it is more than one person at a time. I guess it is a blessing and a curse.

I have a few invites, again asking for a lobste.rs invite.

Sadly, I've seen all of these points happen. Even 26 and 28.

Not at all. I truly admire it. I recognize I don't even have the technical skills to replicate it (I wish). It was never my intention to belittle her efforts, I'm sorry if my comment came out like that.

I cannot express how much I admire this post. This is how I think women should address gender equality: not by antagonizing men, but through sound and assertive work like this.
