I am sorry to hear that OP, I hope you fight the good fight and wish you all the best.

On a different note, a quick cursory glance of this company really makes me wonder who even gave them $160M? The company site is soulless and filled with corporate jargon, and the whole company smells of bloat and leadership team is a long list of people in bullshit jobs. Is this where VC money goes these days? I am dumbfounded by the degree of mismatch between capital and utility

They are not intrinsically truth seekers, and any truth seeking behaviour is mostly tuned during the training process.

Unfortunately it also means it can be easily undone. E.g. just look at Grok in its current lobotomized version

Doctor here

1. It’s generally difficult to quantify such risks in any meaningful manner

2. Provision of any number adds liability, and puts you in a damned-if-does, damned-if-it-doesn’t-work-out situation

3. The operating surgeon is not the best to quantify these risks - the surgeon owns the operation, and the anaesthesiologist owns the patient / theatre

4. Gamblers quantify risk because they make money from accurate assessment of risk. Doctors are in no way incentivised to do so

5. The returned chance of 1/3 probably had an error margin of +/-33% itself

Reading the core paper discussed in the article, along with all its context, will take ~hours. This article is a great 5-minute update on the latest research with a well written primer on the topic

The Kanji for Mitsubishi is 三菱, which literally means “three rhombus”. It is possible that they were independently invented, but the hypothesis on family crest crossovers still feels more likely

From the deals that come my way, I see a lot more older founders with experience these days.

That said, I think the main reason why SV prefers younger founders is exactly because of their naivety + lack of understanding in their respective domains. E.g. It’s a lot easier for someone who has never worked in healthcare to try to disrupt healthcare, than someone who’s been institutionalised by the system they’re embedded in.

99% of these young founders won’t work out, but occasionally there will be one with a fresh idea that truly disrupts a system and gives the hypergrowth returns that VC guys want

Despite the flak Nvidia gets for VRAM sizes, 5090 seems to be a decent offer. Can’t say the same about the rest of the line.

FWIW, it appears the best homelab set up would still be 2-4x 3090 if you want VRAM for LLMs, but a single 5090 would likely be the best in class for prosumers on any less VRAM heavy tasks such as image / video generation or deep RL research

While the article is not particular in depth, it is mostly accurate and provides a mostly well intentioned introduction to the concept and how that could relate to emergent property of LLMs. I am curious why you think it was "utterly banal".

Additionally, abiogenesis is well accepted in academia as a prime example of emergence.

I'm by no means a UI expert, but 1. The email box / button needs to be much bigger. You probably want a more custom button style as well 2. Image loading speed is inconsistent; choice of image also. I will probably stick with a single image 3. Animation of the record is cool, but it should be triggered once only. There is no need for a big "X" button to reset it

I went through your blog post and I like your idea. Would love to see further iterations with the page and product

"His net worth isn’t something he says he ever thinks about. “I don’t waste time on it. Because at the end of the day, it’s a theoretical number that has no relevance. It’s not as if we have a bank account full with all that money and liquidity. I’m sorry, it’s not cash. It’s assets that are necessary so that people can do their jobs."

I wish more people can see it that way instead of touting the successes of billionaires just by virtue of their theoretical net worth
