My opinion is that there is something else wrong if your editor takes minutes to open.

I know very few people that routinely have major issues with VS. It's not perfect, but it's a really good IDE to use and to be really productive given the appropriate workload.

Dynamic/adaptive cruise control is a really nice safety feature which I use whenever I can. I guess the 'autopilot' capabilities is just another form of that, but I'd still be hesitant to be hands off and read a book.

Every. Single. Time I open Google using Edge. And Chrome is just as annoying wanting to be the default browser.

How is this different to a prompt when I install Chrome?

Both are highly annoying.

I always have Chrome open, but Edge is still set as my default browser to open links from applications. It opens quickly and it works perfectly fine. Have never had issues with Edge. If I could use some of the same Chrome extensions on Edge, I'd probably even use it most of the time.

Random thought from someone with little theoretical experience with TLS. What would be offloaded to hardware? And would that not create a possible security/backdoor issue if there's no access to see how this is implemented by the hardware? I'm sure we offload things like this to hardware already with other technologies. Like I said, random thought.

I was intrigued by this article. So I tested it myself using VSCode 1.15.1 (x64), and a 6.16 MB (6 462 222 bytes) XML file. File opened in < 4 seconds. Uses about 180MB of memory. All 16013 lines show. Scrolling isn't an issue. Code folding isn't an issue. Memory usage dropped to 160MB, and then jumped to 330MB. Still high, but for me it works well and not a scenario I'd typically encounter.

Better in which way? In your daily usage scenario? Memory usage? I'm sure there will be cases where Vim or notepad++ works better for me. At present, vscode works for 90%+ of the things I need to do. For my usage scenario, notepad++ is not better than vscode. Use whatever application works for you, but don't say something is better or worse, without looking at it subjectively.

This. The frequent updates for vscode. I used both Sublime and vscode for a while. I switched to vscode overnight when it got hot exit support.

Also the feedback from the Microsoft team (they genuinely seem to put effort into VSCode), the frequent updates and new features. I love(d) ST and it was always one of the first tools I installed after a fresh OS install. My latest install does not include ST, only VSCode (Windows and Linux). I do not notice the speed in the type of work I do.

Still glad that there's an alternative available to VSCode also. :)
