I'm in China, and I just see people learning about this the very hard way. There were many unusual unrests and crackdowns recently.
SMS is definitely a weak spot without a second thought. The state actor can easily analyse and reroute then pull off a massive list of names straight to gulag.
Other than the standard people mentioned, there are also the "1992 consensus" [1] which intentionally made the word "China" ambiguous.
One possible interpretation is there's a thing called "de jure China", and both P.R.China and R.O.China (Taiwan) can claim themselves as legit. It's just de facto R.O.China happens to control only one province within China with is Taiwan (maybe plus some islands from Fujian).

Reminds me of the good'ol dynasties, those who "criticize the imperial court rashly" are getting lynched. The males in the family would be beheaded, while females and kids would be sold as slaves.
And in order to show the mercy of his imperial majesty, the execution of the males would be delayed to autumn.
