I feel like you may have missed the emphasis that Crocker's Rules can only be called for oneself. You don't declare that they are in effect for others, and declaring them doesn't mean that you are giving yourself license to be rude.

In fact, it's just the opposite - you are agreeing to be more accepting of their thoughts, including the emotional content (even the inflammatory parts) of their message.

I believe that the intention is that the emotions that are discarded are your own, at least to the extent that you try to fairly understand the other person's viewpoint by suppressing your own biases and emotional response to what they're saying.

It's true that we need an open baseband processor, but I wonder if this qualifies as the sort of blue-sky research that I'm guessing they'll want to focus on?

My feeling is that the software to accomplish this is already largely there, but the hard part of getting a design to the fab and actually getting anyone to adopt it isn't.

I think there would also be a number of regulatory hurdles to cross, since this would end up being essentially an SDR, and the FCC (for example) already seems to fear wide public availability for those.

Zach Weiner changed his name to Weinersmith when he got married. I think the parent was mistaken when he said Weinberg, but Marty Weiner being Zach Weiner's brother does make logical sense (I don't know if it's true though).

On an unrelated note: May I suggest getting a second travel CPAP even if you're not going to nap at the office?

You can use it for travel and vacations, but the best reason to have one is as a backup. Trust me when I say that you don't want to wait a month for a replacement when your existing CPAP fails (and it WILL fail).

Also, it's worth noting that many travel CPAPs have 12-volt car lighter adapters so you can run it off of your car's battery. So maybe you could use it to nap in your car?

Obviously I don't have any numbers for the game - none have been published. But I am a player, and I wouldn't say either of those items are make-or-break features.

There are quite a number of features or promised features that have elicited rage from the community and I think the way these have been handled continues to fuel that rage.

The game model is based on the wildly successful world of tanks, and the core fan base is older with deep pockets. Everyone I know who plays has put in at least $50-100, and some I know have spent as much as $700(!).

If the studio is on the brink of disaster, sure, I could see hail-mary moves being made. What doesn't seem to make sense is not making those moves be crowd pleasers.

It seems like the lead designer really is both disconnected with the fans and loves to troll parts of the community. And the community managers that have been put in place compound the problems.

If the game isn't making money it's a shame - but it's probably a mismanagement issue.

You'll be able to see the heat bloom caused by the hot gasses escaping the enemy's ship as it accelerates and know that they're gunning for you.

At that point it's a matter of maneuvering randomly to dodge the kinetic kill munitions. Which certainly involves some luck.

I think direct kinetic weapons only work at long ranges against targets with static movement patterns - ones in regular orbits.

Spaceships can easily dodge projectiles coming from long range, as long as they're looking for trouble.

I think the better option would be some sort of missile bus that released this cluster/shotgun munition at close range in order to ensure a hit.

I can't find it now, but I read an essay a number of years ago that fairly well convinced me that we could (using the technology of the time) theoretically build a telescope that was small enough to be mounted on a space ship or monitoring satellite (~1 meter aperture IIRC) with sufficient angular resolution to spot the space shuttle engines firing at the distance between Earth and Jupiter. We had at that time enough GPU processing power to do a full scan of the sky every 5 minutes.

Now, keep in mind that any ship bearing humans is going to need to radiate infrared photons at about room temperature, around 300 kelvin.

What this implies is that you want to be using an infrared telescope and look for whatever lights up against the cosmic background. Spaceships would be easy to spot, at least inside of our solar system.

Easily handled. SATA backplanes with modular drive slots are available and they fit into two or three or four 5.25" slots. Many enthusiast and server chassis already have the option for SATA backplanes as well.
