The internet is most definitely not fine. There is an incoming tsunami of chat gpt generated bullshit that is going to make most open discussion sites more or less useless. Twitter requiring accounts and Reddit shutting down apis are both related: chat gpt et al are a threat to the social media business and ironically made possible because of the social media business. TBF I think we should all be exercising extreme (even more than usual) skepticism on any discussion sites any more.

I think a lot of it is driven by the desire for a product/service to exist, rather than the hard nosed financial decision to “Invest.”The crazy growth of companies like beyond meat and tesla are weird to number crunching investors but retail wants electric cars and not-meat to exist because the individuals think it will improve their quality of life.

You’re completely correct about those financials making no sense though.

This has happened to developers multiple times. Frankly it’s happened so many times that it’s become mundane. These programs are tools, and after a while you realize having a new tool in the bag doesn’t displace people. What it does is make the old job easy and new job has a higher bar for excellence. Everyone who has been writing software longer than a few years can name several things that used to take them a long time and a lot of specialization, and now take any amateur 5 minutes. It might seem scary, but it’s really not. It just means that talented artists will be able to use these tools to create even more even cooler art, because they don’t need to waste their time on the common and mechanical portions.
